Coming into 2023, there were only two genres I hadn't done: Westerns and musicals. I thought I could take care of both with a remake of Paint Your Wagon, but the financing fell through, so I settled for this movie. When I was a kid, I loved Westerns. My favorite actors all did Westerns. Guys like John Wayne, Roy Rogers, Bob Mitchum, Chuck Bronson. I have a list with 147 other names. I'm happy to name them all because every one influenced my performance in The Old Way. I especially want to give credit to David Bowie, who never acted in Westerns, but he and I once spent a weekend on mescaline while camping in Nevada near Great Basin, and I thought he helped me learn the true spirit of the West.
A couple of good lines by Cage's characters lin two places. It's a well trodden plot, albeit decent characters and dialog with a few nice screens. Good 6/10

Boring, full of heavy-handed exposition and deeply forgettable. Don't waste your time.Blocho
