This was a fantastic film and reminded me of a western version of 12 Angry Men. The final 10 minutes were absolutely brilliant. Hopefully after some more votes it'll slip into the IMDb top 250. I don't know why it's not there already, it has a rating of 8.2/10 from 9,500 votes.

So simply done but so powerful. It's message still rings true today, with or without wild posses. The message it brings is something you will remember all your life.

Powerful. This is the type of movie that will get you thinking about life, justice, and society for a great deal of time after you have seen the movie.

A short film that feels almost at times like an episode from a Western serial but its reduced length does nothing to tarnish it's potency. Henry Fonda is included in there but in a strange way he's not really the main attraction while the drama and overall message certainly is. It's a message and tone that only gets more timely as society rolls on because at its heart it is an exposé on human nature and a desire to push reality aside in favor of feeling good about a situation whether it's true or not. Definitely a poignant Western and worth a watch.

A very intense movie, but not packed. Belongs into the Western Top list.

Yes, this 1943 film is a remake of a 1950 Kurosawa film. Good thinking.

BASED! In some ways this is an anti-western. It turns a black-light on the hasty, gun-slinging pursuit of justice portrayed in other movies of the era. Henry Fonda brings his usual charisma and elevates an already fantastic movie.

To The Commenter MM,

So rarely can anyone take the words out of my mouth (and Lord knows I got a lot of them good and bad!) but brother (or sister) you nailed it! That was exactly what I was going to say...I only wish I could give you more than 1 upvote....

@Total Hipster, I completely agree, it's very ahead of its time considering the basic morality play back and forth; its a sad and rings true because between heresay and mis-communication those things happened often in those days. I don't know how this wasn't nominated for more just for the brilliance of the script.
