I was a teen in the 90s and this film was all the rage. All my friends talked about was this movie and how they cried. I refused to see it because it was 2 hrs and looked lame & sappy. I saw it for the first time a few months ago & i enjoyed it a lot. I'd forgotten how cute Leo was back then.
I do like that movie. Yes, it has its weak elements. It's not among my favorite movies, DiCaprio is acting nicely but nowhere near as well as in later movies, and no matter what anyone says - I say the raft COULD have carried both of them, it was easily big enough...
But somehow I still enjoy watching this movie. It's just an exciting and charming lovestory and I really like Kate Winslet in this film.
So all in all, not a movie I want to watch over and over again, nothing that I consider a treasure of cinema, but something about it does really appeal to me.
I never wanted to watch Titanic for a few reasons. 1) People call it Cameron's best 2) It won 11 Oscars which I thought it didn't deserve 3) The acting was a bit poor 4) I heard it was over the top 5) I heard there was a lot of cheesy dialogue and the movie could've been shortened.
Whilst I love Titanic now, its not Cameron's best nor is it worthy of standing up to 'Return of the King' and 'Ben-hur' for 11 oscars. It certainly is a great movie with a few bits of mediocre acting, some cheesy dialogue but also a powerful movie with such amazing cinematography, directing and music
If there's people arguing that The Artist should not have won an oscar, for being a silent film... why can't people dislike this one? At least, I respect the people who likes this film, even if I hate it... because in cinema, there are tastes, colors, genres, and we can love or hate them. There's people that hates Di Caprio, and people that loves him, it's just a matter of preferences.

If you want to watch a really good film about Titanic and not a made up love story check out A Night to Remember (1958)kaiizel
The first time I watched it I did have tears in my eyes, then after another few I noticed a lot of flaws and only found humor out of them...Rohit
Saw it in 3D today. Not worth the love, Not worth the hate. Not worth the Oscars. Just one plain average story in a popular moneymaking attemptRdgz_Dust_Speck
