Another one of those movies that wouldn't even have been on any list if it was American or Australian. There's a faint ghost of an attempt at characterizing the changes in the Japanese society post-WWII but it's really not that deep.george4mon

(Distinct lack of) Tokyo story.freemind
I agree with Floor Man. The visual part is interesting, but I was very suprised and distracted by really, really bad acting.chunkylefunga
An ok film, showing a true reflection of many families but the acting was awful, everyone was far too wooden.Miss Jitterbug
This was the slowest movie I've seen.Emiam
A 6/10 as a film and in its genre, but a 2+ as entertainment. The first, admittedly former, IMDb Top 250 movie I first rated two (!), but updated after seeing it in one piece with Lidingö FilmStudio in October 2019. Far too slow, bland (and sad).
It took me the first time 2 weeks (!) to slowly take me through a new 10-min part each new evening as I fell asleep in front of the box every night.
But after Anna-Lena's excellent introductory talk about film and director, you understand the film better. Interesting fact is that the director and first cameraman decided to film mostly at a "Japanese sitting height" of 50 cm to give a feeling of talking confidently with the characters - you should be in the conversation.
The film should, very consciously, be told at a contemplatively slow pace.

Boring movie with bad actors. Hasn't aged well at all.Dimitris Psachos Springer
The two, most hilarious topics in Tokyo Story's comment section: "the film is slow" and "the acting is terrible".Goes to show how little cinematic knowledge people have.

Oh what an amazing movie! I cried, I laughed, I cried some more, it gave me more than any Batman movie can.Showing items 1 – 15 of 30
