So much better than Olympus Has Fallen, if only because it doesn't take itself anywhere near as seriously. Has Emmerich finally developed a sense of self-awareness in regards to his ridiculous, patriotic brand of action movies? A scene with the President shooting a rocket launcher out of a moving car and a self-referential nod to Independence Day says that the answer is probably yes. While Olympus Has Fallen had unquestionably the better invasion scene, everything else about White House Down is far superior, and if that doesn't convince you then see it solely for Liam McPoyle trying to bring down America by literally hacking the White House.

The last time I watched this movie it was called "Olympus Has Fallen".
This one is the black president remix, and like its cousin is improbable and incredulous at the same time. The movies are so similar it's uncanny. Both are impossible to take seriously.

Recommended for light entertainment.

This is incredibly stupid, but I rarely had this type of blameful fun since the demise of 90's action. There actually is some thick suspense curve going on for the better part of the film, and something makes Emmerich's cheesy explosion-nonsense-flicks always more likeable than the likes of Michael Bay & others. The probably intentional "unintentionally hilarious" parts kinda work, too (too many to name them; spoiler).
You know what you're in for, so better catch your friends and some beer ..

We have a hero in a white vest called John trapped in a building that's been taken over by terrorists. He's now on the rooftop whilst helicopters, under the command of technically good guys who are being portrayed negatively in comparison to the previously established good guys, arrive. Helicopter mistakes John for a terrorist and shoots at him before being taken out.

Hmmmm, no, doesn't sound familiar at all...

I do love a good Roland Emmerich-directed big-screen spectacle. White House Down has its tongue planted firmly in-cheek, giving us a great One-Man Army, 80s-style run-and-gun-explosion-disaster-too-much-awesome-type movie. This is a film where you can expect the One-Man, at any given moment, to be engaged in fisticuffs with one baddie, while chucking grenades between his legs at another baddie, while a third baddie sneaks up from behind, but the One-Man is too clever and disarms him while simultaneously using the third baddie's weapon to take down a fourth baddie that you didn't see! It is utterly ridiculous and played completely for the sake of entertainment.

Of course, it wouldn't be an Emmerich disaster flick without a heaping dose of family drama, heroes being made from the most unlikely characters spoiler, and The End Of The World as we know it! With nods to his previous work, including an Independence Day shout-out, this is a great time for anyone willing to be entertained for the sake of entertainment. There's no deep message, just a whole heckuva lot of fun!

Best Emmerich film since ID4

a slow start but by the end it builds to the iconic imagery this director is know for. By far not a perfect film, but a damn well enjoyable one

Disappointing action movies with lackluster action, bad script and a largely wasted cast.

Fun action suspense film. Nothing more, nothing less. My only issue is the reliance on CGI rather than real stunts. Has the art been lost? Is Hollywood getting lazy? Honestly, you can't even drive a real car into a swimming pool anymore?

Not so great, but OK overall.
Also, as a native Iranian, I had a 'weird' feeling at some parts... :S

I prefer Olympus has Fallen, funny at some points but stupid in others, Jason Clarke was my favourite actor in the movie,
Channing Tatum was also good.
Olympus has Fallen is a better movie.

Basically Olympus has fallen 2, pure action film, and for that purpose it's an okay film. For Tatum I guess it's okay, for Foxx, Gyllenhaal, Jenkins and Woods I have no idea how they could read the script and say "this looks like a decent film I want to be associated with". Except the paycheck.

Lacks focus, with plot holes. I was expecting a thriller, instead I got a movie trying to be something exciting, but remaining slow. Tatum is beautiful, and this is the only redeeming quality of the movie.
