Although Price wasn't as menacing as I've seen him before, it was a different Price for me. This one was sexually overt instead of romantically frightening. But at the same time, he seemed to have a guilt about it. Either way, my favorite part was spoiler Great movie, if only for that part alone.

I saw Ken Russell's The Devils for the first time this year and honestly, I think Witchfinder General suffers by comparison. It felt like a very superficial experience--Hopkins just comes across as a mustache-twirling villain. No depth of insight into his character or the times that permitted such sadism in the name of Christ.

Well, that was disappointing... I learned about this movie through doom metal bands like Witchfinder General and Cathedral, so my expectations were somewhat different than what I saw. I don't really know what I expected (maybe something more in the lines of A Field in England), but in any case something far less conventional than what I saw. It surprises me that this movie was so heavily cut in censorship. Maybe I underestimated the conservative sentiments in 1960s Britain... In any case, apart from Vincent Price, nothing about Witchfinder General makes me feel like I'm watching a horror movie. Some imagery certainly gives away director Michael Reeves' sentiment to the genre, but I thought he would've added more of an occult sensation in the picture. If Reeves didn't die an unfortunate young death a few months after this was released, I don't think it would've become such a cult hit...

definitely goes over the top at times and some of the acting is weak but it has a vitality and rawness to it, and is shot very nicely. a worthy film

I saw this yesterday, but I may have to watch it again...aiming to see the version with the original score. The synthetic, '80s-era score added later (due to licensing problems) is totally inappropriate for a 1968 film. Spoils the atmosphere.

Prices best move, and possibly the most underrated horror movie of all time.

Could have been better but the ending was pretty good.

Dull, and Price's character came across as annoying instead of menacing.
