‘A miracle in cell no.7’ hits in all the right places. It is about a father with an intellectual disability, separated from his daughter who must prove his innocence when he is jailed for the death of a commander’s child.
The film is successful in encapsulating the staunch presence of the Turkish military in the 1980s and its influence is evident in the movie itself.
This was heavily dramatised to be sure with a plethora of music to aide the emotional scenes. Whilst this is welcomed, I felt that it was used quite aggressively throughout the feature which is typical of Turkish cinema. The acting was phenomenal, comprised of a brilliant cast. A myriad of themes came to the forefront; guilt, change, pride, religion, compassion etc.
Highly recommended. It is very likely you will be bawling your eyes out. There’s a good dose of light-hearted scenes to uplift your mood but be warned, that light-heartedness will be short lived. This is an emotional rollercoaster with more lows than highs 4 years ago
