Not as offensively bad as "Bang Bang You're Dead" (or Ben X for that matter), but another contrived film to fit the false post-Columbine narrative about bullying. For all its 1980s camp, the movie Heathers still provides more insight into the narcissism and stupidity of school shootings than all these weepy post-2000 failures. ("Dear diary, my teen-angst bulls**t now has a body count.")
No art is "terrible" in any objective sense, but most of the movies on this list are not on one other list on this website and have a below average rating on IMDb. So movies that don't impress critics, film-fans, or audiences.
Roger Ebert's list: Films that are well-known and good.
Jonathan Rosenbaum's list: Films that are obscure and good.
World Box Office list: Films that are well-known and mediocre.
Ain't Nobody's list: Films that are obscure and mediocre.
Every line of dialogue in this movie sounds like it was written by some 15 year old boy with neck acne, an unwashed WWE shirt, and a C+ in math. I feel like I have to go listen to NPR for a few hours just to wash some of the juggalo contamination off my brain.
I would like to take this movie, and smoosh it inside a turd along with Southland Tales. Then I would like to fling that turd into the white hot furnace of hell where it will burn forever.
First number is the imdb rating. Second number is the imdb top 1000 voter rating. Third number is icheck top lists (non-imdb). The top 1000 voter rating and icheck list representation are indicative of the movie's true quality.
Very well done indie survival movie. I don't understand why the movie is in English, since everyone in the crew besides the actors appears to be Russian/Georgian. Maybe this transnational weirdness somehow explains why the marketing and distribution of this movie was so poor that only one other person on this website has even seen it.
Looper = Terminator + X-Men. I'm not going to say I wasn't reasonably entertained, but the script is lazy, dumb, and rather sloppy.
If the mafia had time travel there are *hundreds* of far more advantageous ways of using it then sending your murder victims back in time. Which itself isn't even a coherent solution to omniscient police forensics (The police could just track down the renegade time travel machines instead).
And why are the loopers even told they will be killed one day? Even worse, why do they have to kill *themselves* when this clearly creates a major conflict of interest? The victims are hooded and anonymous anyway.
I could go on. There are a lot of aspects of this movie which are poorly conceived.
The 30 year age difference doesn't make this a very believable romance, especially because Astaire and Hepburn are so mismatched in attractiveness to begin with.
Then on top of that, his character is an insecure, controlling prick, and the only way the script could save itself was by turning his obviously superior romantic rival into some kind of rapist.
Above Dan's bed you'll notice a poster for Stop Making Sense by the Talking Heads; it's probably not a coincidence that both of those phrases describe this movie.
This is Coppola's first masterwork since Jack (1996). He has clearly matured as an artist since his rather amateur pictures from the 1970s. But he's had 40 additional years to practice his craft, so you would just naturally expect Twixt to be as amazing as it is.
I'd expect nothing less from the fourth greatest director of all time.
