clear depiction of sheep's throat being cut open and bleeding to death
; if you don't want to expose yourself to this, it's in the YT link from 43:40-45:00 & 48:40-51:15. There are additional dead fetuses of lambs seen from 55:00 onwards.
Also some Brakhage level parturition shit if you mind that.
Dire, dreamy, beautiful, like Days of Heaven filmed through a lens of real-life horror. It's fascinating, although not as great as I was hoping with such a description.
Terry Gilliam's Tideland also comes to mind; maybe he was inspired?
A whole lot of nothingness and incompetence. If you're amused by amateur action trash, you might find something to enjoy here, else it's a mindnumbing bore. I should have considered the Rifftracks version ..
These days I'm already happy when a Netflix film doesn't suck, and Army of the Dead was .. alright, almost. Be advised that this isn't mainly a scary horror film, but a dystopic heist action thriller with zombies for adrenaline and some amusement (have these been done before)? What baffles me the most is how the thing left an editing room with 2:28h. Just why? According to IMDb, it's the third longest horror genre entry of all time. That's not warranted, although I didn't bore out as with that other recent Zack Snyder flick.
On the plus side: gritty, dusty and bleached out look in the outside of wasted Las Vegas. Some dynamic (or antsy) camerawork, many times losing focus and definition. For a streaming movie which is allowed for 16-year-olds in Germany it's gorier than expected, the effects look good. No nonsense mostly. Zombie tiger.
Negative: dull casting overall (although I might watch out for Ella Purnell in the future). I don't see Dave Bautista as a leadman, even for an action-film, nope. Germany's box office star Matthias Schweighöfer is annoying. The use of cover pop & rock songs sucked and culminated in the bad intro with a never-ending interpretation of "Viva Las Vegas". Ugh, spare me that. Actually all of the figures are forgettable and there's not much plot to care about .. I'll just admit that I watch these films more for effects and scenery than for that.
PSA: There seems to be an issue with a dead pixel in the film itself. oO
If you're wondering about that during your watch - I had to - it's not your TV, it's the damn source! They have a budget of 70-90 million and could reshoot every scene of Chris D'Elia, but didn't take care of that? Huh.
Don't wonder about the length (and score) of the rip on Archive, it's legit:
quote:
In 2003, Film Preservation Associates, Inc. copyrighted a version with a piano score compiled and performed by Neal Kurz from the works of Edvard Grieg. It was produced for video by David Shepard and runs 71 minutes.
Okay, visually this is maybe a bit stripped-down and 2 to 3 minutes would suffice, yeah .. the sound level, on the other hand, is even a bit satisfying; very rhythmic and reduced with short bursts of noise .. I mean, a fan of Prurient could get something out of this.
Weird fun fact: Shares the name of a German soccer club which is notorious for its, um, often difficult supporters / fan culture (with hools and nazis allotted), so, it might be a bonus reason to give it a watch to whoever Bundesliga fan might now be researching experimental films on ICM and is reading my comment .. (:
HD upload with original French and German intertitles + English subs. What more could you wish for:
[edit]Fun while it lasted, dead now :( Feel free to post a new link for us ..
Chaotic and heavy-handed from the beginning with so much loud Hitchcockian suspense score and wild cuts to still make the viewer's pulse go up, so some Netflixers won't even notice it's quite a mess. You'd expect such a stressful thriller to have a laughable last 20 minutes, and you sure get that.
This is really just an amusement park type 3-D demonstration gimmick for Muppet fans present at the location and shouldn't compete with "proper" short films if you ask me ..
Anyway, when I think of Gonzo films, I prefer Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
