@Dieguito, I have a fun story for you. The lead in this movie, our beloved 'Mother India', Nargis, said that Satyajit Ray's films were "exporting images of India's poverty."
So much to value good cinema in India
Surprisingly better than I had expected from a Nargis-Dilip Kumar film.
This decently acted and modestly directed film deals with the subtleties of atheism and theism, using the story of devotional poet Mira Bai as a background. Very rarely have I seen a Hindi movie with songs that fit perfectly in the story; at least, most of them.
PS: Some 16 songs in the film, mainly include devotional poems and songs. If you are aware of the Indian Cinema from the yesteryear, you may be up for a pleasant surprise.
This is yet another hard to find film by Arun Khopkar. I don't know about the international market, but I finally found this and rented it from a nearby DVD store in East Delhi. Couldn't copy it as I didn't have my laptop with me. Sorry about that.
Alright, I haven't seen it yet, but I'm positive this is not the best movie ever.
From what I know this film was banned in some and delayed in other states in India for alleged anti-islamic/religious commentary. The producer/actor decided to choose exile as an option rather than compromising his 'creative liberty'. It got some extra attention and the usual lionizing fan base based on all this media coverage.
Apparently, considering the kind of emotional people we are, we gave our blessings to the actor in form of a perfect 10/10.
I find it amusing how sharing an ipod's storage capacity in a film could put someone off a movie which was so much more than a 32gb ipod.
Not a great film for many other different reasons.
