Definitely over-rated.. but then I didnt like the book either - which makes me one very few, i know - I just don't find the characters to be endearing or interesting at all - i feel nothing toward them. I havent seen the next two, but i might try and watch them one day to see if they are better...
I actually hated this movie, it was boring, slow-moving and at nearly 3 hours, went way too long (ofcourse if it was a GOOD movie, it would have been ok). Both my friend and I fell asleep in the cinema and when we woke up it was STILL going - very disappointed. I think we left before the end, which is something i never do - I even sat through the whole of 'Birth' and 'Passion of the Christ'.
Oh god, kill me if I ever have to watch this again. 3 hours of watching someone get beaten to a bloody pulp is not good cinema - it did however give inspiration to the south park episode 'Passion of the Jew' which was very funny - 'it really guilt trips you into believing'. Only good points - great cinematography and i did like the parts depicting the relationship between Jesus and Mary.
I loved the character development, it's what made this film different to the stock standard Hollywood 'blow 'em up' films. I really enjoyed this film - Robert De Niro was brilliant, though I thought Al Pacino could have done better.
