Much more interesting for its overt references to the
Illuminati and McConaughey's lesser-known usage of "alright, alright, alright," than anything else. After that, the movie is pure trash.
Oh and it is more commonly known as "Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation"
Just because this deals with an important historical event and is beautifully shot does not make it any less torture porn. It's too bad, because this could have been really great.
The problems I have with this doc-- namely some gray area journalism relying almost exclusively on heresay-- are overcome by how damn compelling the story is, as well as the volume of batshit crazy interview material.
It's not nearly as bad as people are making it sound. In fact, I thought it was rather enjoyable, if you understand what you're getting into. And let's be honest, you're smart enough to know what kind of movie this is ahead of time.
The set design is incredible and maybe even flawless. The acting isn't bad either. In fact, Jennifer Lawrence has some very subtle moments early on which are well-acted. Sadly, the writing doesn't do her any favors. Quite the opposite, in fact.
The writing is atrocious. There is no sympathy to be had for any of the characters, even Jennifer Lawrence. Everyone is deplorable, with the exception of her, who just doesn't do anything remarkable and distinctly lacks self-respect.
The allegory also self-implodes on its own pretension. Is Javier Barden supposed to be God / Yahweh / the Creator? Who then, is Jennifer Lawrence? A faithful follower, sure, but not one worth respecting. Maybe that's the point. It's hard to tell. There is no vengeful pay-off, only sadism, masochism, loud noises and nonsense.
Not that Murphy is a pretentious person, but the interviews were a lot of nonsense. I kind of just wish they would have... you know... shut up and played the hits.

I am convinced that if Russ McKamey weren't running a "haunted" house, he'd be a serial killer. The man is definitely a sociopath.Toplist comment on Jim Carrey Filmography
