For me the musical score was distracting and at times annoying. The realism by the actors played out very well and left you uncomfortable with no resolution at the end which is just like life.
I know the subject material is serious and meant to be dramatic but it gave me a sense that this group of people are morose, unkind and rude to each other. A simple "Merry Christmas" or "Hello" seemed difficult to express. I just couldn't stick with this series as it depressed me and I found it hard to make the connection to the subject matter.
I didn't mind the film but grossed out with the defecation scene. Minimal dialogue was perfect. The character Robert has a tendency to touch things that don't belong to him, it drove me crazy.
Interesting adaption of Crime & Punishment. The one main character Fabian is well played as a heartless and destructive psychopath. I just found the film too long by doing extensive shots of some scenes.
This adaptation of "The Human Comedy" is appealing enough to watch. But it can come off as being fragmented jumping from place to place trying to show life in '40s. The characters are never fully developed and it gives us little tidbits about the characters but never hooks us into the spirit of the individuals. I really wanted to like the main character Homer but the spoken lines are often wooden and ultimately I feel no connection to him. Good first outing though Meg Ryan.
Being a Canadian, the Band was huge for me. As well Ronnie Hawkins was a staple in Toronto. Robbie Robertson is an aboriginal from nearby Six Nations reserve in Brantford. So growing up with their music was special. The movie just exemplified it for me.
The film photography is well done. However, the battle scenes are clumsy and awkward. This film tries to draw out sympathy for the British in a country where they don't belong. I have no sympathy and never will.
Interesting how the scheming Ben could foretell the future when he says to Regina. "We'll own this country one of these days and they won't try to stop us." His prediction came true.

Its wasn't so bad but it lagged at times. I don't get a 36 year old man and his 30 year old cronies playing college graduates.Movie comment on Paterson
