What a wonderful little film. This is exactly what belongs on the UNESCO list.

The emperor is wearing no clothes.
But of course I'm sure certain film deities with intellectual capacities far beyond that of mortal men will be able to see the immense beauty of this divine masterpiece :)

Removing official status from lists seems to be a rather controversial issue. I'm mostly just grateful to have this website, thanks for the new lists.

Incredible that Andrew Strong was only 18 when this came out.

I did a tour as a combat engineer in Afghanistan, and during bomb training we had a lot of good laughs about what NOT to do, as seen in this movie. It is so unrealistic it almost becomes a comedy.

What did you expect from a Van Damme movie? Of the movies he's been in, this is one of the most enjoyable, and it has an atmosphere you won't find in a lot of other movies.

It feels dumb to say the same as everyone else, but the ending blew me completely away.

I thought New Fist of Fury was the most popular title for this.

Must have seen this movie at least 10 times before, just with different cast and a different director...

One of the better soundtracks by Vangelis.

It keeps surprising me what kind of stunts and action scenes they could make in these old silent films.

I love how there can easily go 10 seconds between anybody saying something. Kurosawa was great at putting the audience in the same kind of relaxed meditation as the actors.

The ending of this movie is as beautiful tribute to Kurosawa's own life as to the lead role.

In the 50's and 60's, Japan surely was the super power of the world concerning movies.

1999 was indeed a good year for filmmaking. This is pretty much the opposite of Fight Club. Fight Club explains why life is meaningless crap - American Beauty explains why life is so beautiful. Both brilliant films. Nothing else can be said about it - brilliant.
