As presented, it reaches out to make any "critic for many years", who would want to make a list that may appear obscure to some people, immune to criticism, unless performed by someone with profound knowledge of said list, which could only mean realistically that this person is another "critic of many years".
Hell yeah, it seems pretentious. It doesn't mean it is, of course, actually pretentious. J.R. had better things to do than impressing the general public with his knowledge. But again, yes, it seems pretentious, and that's why we are here.
The ordering seems wrong: for example Andrei Roublev had 48 votes while The Cranes are Flying had only 47, you can see that at the auteurs page (there's a link in the description). This list is composed of two parts (pre- and post 1958), each of them ordered by votes.
