My parents love this film, so I decided to watch it with them on our family holiday. Oh boy, this was a tough one to get through! Normally I don’t mind action films, but I don’t even know what this was trying to be.
What an honest portrayal of an Australian life! I felt captivated the whole way through, I truly connected to the film.
However, there was something lacking that stopped it from being a great film. That stopped it from being recognised internationally. Maybe it was the dinner conversation scenes or some of the character dynamics, I’ll have to ponder on that for a while.
That being said, it’s a damn good film, it is so refreshing to watch an Australian film that truly felt like it was made there. I sense that a lot of love and hard work went into Breath.
This film surprised me in so many ways. The plot, the characters, the essence of the film. I haven't watched a film like this before. At first, I really didn't know how to feel about Toni Erdmann and I think that is the point. The idea that you don't really fully understand a person and that's okay. People love differently, they see the world as something else. Rather than fighting with that idea, you just accept it. The craziness and all.
This film really gets to you. There is so many layers to unpack. The 'Last Supper' was so uniquely done. I really have enjoyed watching Buñuel's work lately.
It is so nice to watch Bunuel's later work. It's such a treat to watch a drama film with a touch of his surrealist art. It truly made for a great film.
