The Prologue of Antichrist was way too awesome and the entire film is quite disturbing at times but otherwise, it's just too dull and pointless. And the "Andrei Tarkovsky" tribute in the end makes it more lame...

I am extremely surprised that this anime masterpiece has not gained so much recognition. It's an ingenious film with great score, animation and an epic story. Please give it a try!

Today's sci-fi films are always oriented around common action cliches. Chris Marker's La Jetée is totally different though. It doesn't have a single motion video content (Except for a few seconds, one of the greatest moments in cinema). The entire film's story is told through still images and a guy narrates the story. The final result was so impressive that it inspired many time-travel films including Terminator and 12 Monkeys.

The film begins in an airport in Paris. A boy witnesses the murder of a man and the reaction of a woman to the same. Soon the entire city is destroyed and thus begins World War 3. All the survivors hide underground, including the boy who survives the attack. In a few years, Man becomes capable of going back and forth in time but the technology is still infant and had already driven all the subjects to madness. The aim of this experiment was to save mankind. The next subject of this experiment is the boy himself, now a grown-up. Even now he remembers the woman's face, encapsulated in his memories. This helps him to undergo the experiment successfully. All his memoirs are reflected through the still images, both old and the ones he was going to experience through time travel. When he sent back to the past, he meets the woman and what happens next is a spellbinding experience...

Hehe, I never knew that Sci-fiction films could ever be like this one. All we have seen is exploding stuff and alien attacks, not to mention time travel by a DeLorean. Well, Kubrick's 2001 is of completely another league so comparing these two masterpieces is useless. La Jetee is only 30 minutes long. But it's something any cinephile ought not to miss. The Story is simple, yet the it has a beautiful complexity behind it that can only be felt.

La Jetee is officially #50 on BFI Sight and Sound's Poll.

The Cabin in the Woods has got to be one of the most ridiculous yet entertaining films to come out this year. Horror? Wooo! Not even close. But still I enjoyed it and can't believe I did! The thing I loved the most is how one cannot tell the story without giving away anything.

Simple, Heartwarming and Moving, Le Havre is one of the best feel-good films I have seen so far. The film begins with a shot of a shoe-shiner looking for an opportunity to earn a few bucks (By observing all the shoes of all the passerby). He wears a blank, wooden expression as if nothing matters. It doesn't change even when a guy is shot dead in front of him by some unknown unimportant enmity. As a matter of fact, his expression hardly ever changes throughout the entire film! Well I haven't seen any other films directed by the Finnish director (Nor any Finnish film) so I will assume that the "deadpan" style adopted by almost all the characters in the film is a significant element that drives the entire film. There are moments of rare smiles that bloom out of the blue for a second or two when the film gets filled with hope and these are the precious moments that actually makes the film work because we had got so much accustomed at watching deadpan expressions...

For all the reasons mentioned above, the film can be called a silent comedy. Le Havre's narrative is not linear: it has many more stories inside in it. According to Wikipedia: "Kaurismäki envisions it as the first installment in a trilogy about life in port cities. His ambition is to make follow-ups set in Spain and Germany, shot in the local languages." Well that explains it. Though I have to agree that each aspect, each element was handled perfectly. Le Havre in my opinion has one of the greatest cinematography and gives the film such a very vibrant, fresh look that I feel like visiting the port one day...

When the film was finished Paramount was not sure whether the film would receive a proper reception so this film wasn't given a proper release and was apparently shelved. Today fortunately the film has been removed from the old shelves by the Criterion Collection and presented in it's original uncut version.

I saw White Dog just a few months ago and I was left spellbound. White Dog is not just an amazing thought-provoking experience but has a thrilling aspect that brings us more closer to that experience and the edge of the seat. Sam Fuller achieves this through impressive film-making style (That includes numerous close-ups, zoom, slow-motion shots), the "cartoon" like acting from the cast that really fits the film's atmosphere, Ennio Morriocone's stark yet powerful score and of course the strange medium through which the heinous acts of racism is inflicted: The Dog. And also the enigmatic yet great ending that makes you think more.

I will admit that this film may not be for everyone. But it's brutal reality is something no one can escape from...

With Rashomon, Japan for one of the first time gained international recognition. The film won an Honorary Oscar and won in many film festivals. Even after 60, Rashomon's cruelty and reality still shocks viewers. But the artistic and stylish direction balances it out. Even today, this film is approached by filmmakers in order to learn the beautiful mysterious magic of cinema.

"FADE IN:
DAWN. CRASHING SURF.
The waves TOSS a BEARDED MAN onto wet sand. He lies there.
A CHILD’S SHOUT makes him LIFT his head to see: a LITTLE
BLONDE BOY crouching, back towards us, watching the tide eat
a SANDCASTLE. A LITTLE BLONDE GIRL joins the boy. The Bearded
Man tries to call them, but they RUN OFF, FACES UNSEEN. He
COLLAPSES."

Inception is about dreams... the beautiful symbolism like the crashing surf that Nolan describes in his screenplay and the children playing in the sand increases the depth the more frequently you watch this film. There are so many countless similar elements like these. Later on the film slowly takes us through a universe where it's possible to break into anyone's dreams and steal their secrets. If you haven't seen Inception, then there's no point telling the story in more depth. It's just that Inception is incredibly thrilling and forces you to think. Nolan convinced me at some points that "they are not gonna make it, this mission is over"... this is the part which keeps you on the edge! It has probably countless moments like these and in some of them were so smartly handled that my heart skipped a beat. The thrills are genuine and the allegory of Inception has created a really rich world filled with fresh insights. If this dream thing happens in real life, I am sure this is how it will happen. I can't compare this with Nolan's other masterpieces, they are all on the same level for me. But do watch this film not just for it's smart screenplay but also the visuals, the amazing detailing that won Inception four Academy Awards including Best Visual Effects and Cinematography.

A film rich in every aspects and one will always find something new to discover...

Miyazaki continues to surprise with this coming-of-age tale of a young witch who leaves her home for her training according to the tradition and after taking refuge in a beautiful city she starts her own delivery service. As is with other Miyazaki films, this anime too isn't artificial in its emotions even when Kiki is eq
uipped with the same old movie clichés. Kiki is an interesting character: she is optimistic, energetic and smart but at the same time she covets, she is proud making her sound a little foolish at times. Miyazaki's portrayal of young girls has always been perfect in every sense (e.g. his other films like Totoro, Spirited Away). Thus our Kiki is the hero and the villain both at the same time. She is that kind of person whose true goal is not to face life but is to face herself and her pride. Honestly, we all have gone through this phase, haven't we? Thus the portrayal of the lead character itself is so strong the film engages the audience like a thriller film does. Secondly, the people around Kiki were captured equally powerfully. She befriends a boy of her age, Tombo (he kind of looks like Waldo from Where's Waldo), then a pregnant woman and her husband who runs a bakery.

If you watch Kiki then one will realize that Miyazaki has used a variety of characters in Kiki who actually are the real juice of the movie. The early 20th century city itself has a character of its own and adds to the sweetness of the film without making it “too” sweet. The animation itself is another surprising element. Miyazaki has taken care of all the intricate details so powerfully that it’s impossible for us not to notice them and the hidden meaning behind it. Over the years critics and fans have debated the age in which the story actually takes place. Miyazaki deduced later in an interview that the story takes place in a different universe where both the World Wars never took place!

Another surprising masterpiece from Miyazaki with lovely imagery, interesting characters, an engaging story and most important of all: a thought-provoking conclusion that we never probably get to see in any other animated films. Highly recommended for animation fans and non-fans alike.

One of Studio Ghibli's masterpieces, Laputa is the story of a boy who is determined on the fact that his father once saw a floating castle in the sky but none believed him. During his daily chores, he happens to meet a girl with a magical pendant that made her float when she fell. As the story advances, we meet many interested parties who come looking for the girl and all of them have one thing in common: They are searching for Laputa. As the mysteries unfold, we are taken more closer to Laputa. And while this happens. We Watch Spellbound! Although Laputa sounds like a children's fairy tale, it is actually the tale of bravery and keeping your promises. While the adults in the movie rely on hatred, piracy and greed, the two children rely on each other and finally succeed to defeat the bad. It's the ultimate Good vs Bad film that is rarely made these days... Laputa deserves more attention also because of the fact that it was crafted by one the most innovative artist of our time, Hayao Miyazaki, who is an expert in bringing out the child out of us... In 2008, the animation world eagerly awaited for another film from the Oscar Winning Mastermind. Yes, the film is Ponyo. Although the general audiences found this film not one of his bests, but critics like Roger Ebert tagged it a true art film for all ages. Boy he was right! The film tells the story of a goldfish who wants to become a human. She befriends Sosuke, a boy of 5 and the one who names her Ponyo. The film is about this friendship and a love that sprouts between the two eventually.

Yeah I know, same old film cliche of love and friendship. But this is where you are wrong. Miyazaki is expert in capturing the emotions and the movements of the characters. When you see both the kids playing, they are not just playing, you seem to be there too witnessing their beautiful friendship. There are scenes of great details like the way Ponyo sits uncomfortably in the boy's house because she's not used to human life that turns a crazy story line in to a magical one. As 90% of the film takes place in the ocean, get ready for a magical ride with sea creatures so beautifully drawn that it feels like a painting coming to life... Miyazaki is so great. I still wonder to this day how he controls the characters and the environment so perfectly? It becomes so real that even his films made for 5-year-old's entertains adults equally. Ponyo is certainly a great addition to the world of animation that Miyazaki has created and this 19 year old just enjoys getting lost in this world.

Even after being 70 years old, this little man still has a child inside him. Ponyo proves that point once again. Get ready to be dazzled by his incredible artistry seen in Ponyo and you won't regret it.

After Nausicaä of the valley of the wind, Castle in the sky, Princess Mononoke, Miyazaki returns with Spirited Away and he just doesn't disappoint. Miyazaki put's all his heart and effort in making the film and he does it so well that we forget the foolishness of the plot (In this case the story is about a girl who gets lost in a s
pirit world and her parents are turned to pigs...) Wait, I don't want a kiddish movie like that! Yeah OK you don't want to. But then what makes Spirited away especially brilliant?

Miyazaki was on a holiday with his friends when he noticed one of his friend's daughter who caught his attention. That girl had an I-don't-care kind of expression and Miyazaki decided to make a film for these kind of people who just don't care about anything interesting that happens in their lives. The opening scene itself proves this when we see Chihiro, our heroine, sitting in the back-seat of a car whilst moving to a new place. But she just doesn't care about her new home, her new school and her new life... Miyazaki also made Chihiro look dull, in short not very pretty or beautiful. So the magic actually begins here: The audience too has that kind of the same emotions like Chihiro does (that's the case every time you go to a film). And then suddenly the film becomes kinetic, full of energy. Chihiro is filled with fear as she becomes trapped in the world of spirits and her parents gone (not dead). And then what follows is a rich story full of interesting characters, an amazing score from Joe Hisaishi, incredible animation that no one can deny and lastly numerous thrilling moments that made my heart pound really fast.

The characters especially have been given a royal and complex treatment, making the film quite unpredictable. Ubaba, the owner of a bath-house for spirits who employs Chihiro, is the antagonist and her face itself tells us that easily. Haku is the one who helps Chihiro survive in the spirit world. The Boiler Man is another character who becomes a good friend of Chihiro and in another way helps her too. Then there's the most trickiest character, No Face or Kaonashi, who is a spirit. All these characters are the driving forces. They play their part perfectly and if this was a live-action film, I wouldn't have been surprised if the actors playing these characters were Oscar nominated. Though the film did win an Oscar for Best Animated film in 2002, the only anime to have done so...

So don't wait long and watch Miyazaki's magical masterpiece. It's so wonderful that we human beings can create so beautiful things using the same old techniques. Miyazaki is one of these artists (Even Joe Hisaishi, the composer) and they never stop making such stuff! Hat's off to the entire team of Studio Ghibli!

It's funny how renowned directors like Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg are extremely well-known for their works and still some of their finest, critically acclaimed works go unnoticed by audiences and the die-hard fans. In Scorsese's case, Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore could be a perfect example and in case of Spielberg it's T
he Color Purple. And in case of Hayao Miyazaki's, it's Porco Rosso (Meaning "Crimson Pig" in Italian).

At the time of it's production, this film was going to be a short film for the Japanese Airline that tells the story of a middle-aged ace pilot from 1930's Fascist Italy who was cursed to become a pig. As it turns out, the film became a full-length feature. After seeing all 9 out of 10 Miyazaki films, this was my final one. What I felt during Porco Rosso was that Miyazaki tackles more bold issues, much bolder than his other films. Porco is not a children's character but one of those guys who drinks a lot, smokes a lot i.e. he represents perfectly an old dead beat pilot trying to find nothing but peace in his life. He is not a character you could learn something from, not a usual theme in Miyazaki's films. What is his role then? In the film it's chasing pirates, running away from the air-force, getting involved in ridiculous fights, etc. Miyazaki offers a different point though by saying that every middle-aged man is a pig and Porco Rosso in this film is simply resembling to that fact.

So this was about Porco Rosso (His real name is Marco Pagot). The other characters like Gina his love, the pirates, the American aviator who challenges Marco to a combat and there's Fio the cute girl who repairs Marco's plane were captured as usually marvelously by Miyazaki's lavish brushstrokes. The story takes place after World War 1 in the Adriatic sea. Thus Miyazaki was challenged to draw a totally different culture which he pulls off successfully. What more lovely about this film is that it stays completely true to history (The war, I mean) and uses this as one of the driving forces in the film. It's just wonderful as it is with all Miyazaki films. Though I have to say that this film is more confusing and subtle in it's way of storytelling. Because Miyazaki also tackles completely newer themes that are even different from other animated films in the world, both fans and non-fans are in for a treat.

My conclusion is that Miyazaki triumphs yet once again in his stellar career and has made the most "unique" animated film I have ever seen proving why I am a very huge fan of his. The Most underrated Studio Ghibli film yet Highly recommended.

If it wasn't for John Lasseter's (creator of Toy Story) love for Japanese anime, we would probably be in the dark still without the knowledge of the existence of Studio Ghibli, the next best animation studio after Disney Pixar. He helped in introducing to the world Ghibli's fantastic films. Hayao Miyazaki, Director and Screenwriter, contributed more handsomely to the studio's achievement and success. And My Neighbor Totoro is one of his greatest achievements, probably in the entire cinematic world. This was the first time I saw what they call "True Art" in any animated movie. The story is of two sisters, Mei and Satsuki, who with their father move to a new home. The two of them then happen to meet Totoro, a forest spirit who helps grow plants in the nearby forest.

What unfolds next is a gentle heartwarming film experience that surprising leaves us nostalgic. Although the film seems to concentrate on a very young audience, it was an experience like Toy Story. What I love about this film is the way it takes time and allows to get lost in Totoro's world. One scene I recall the most is the scene when the two girls and Totoro are waiting, just waiting, at a bus stop taking shelter in umbrellas from the rain. Miyazaki captured the calmness so perfectly that it made me think,"You don't get to see this even on Winnie the Pooh". That scene truly is one the greatest moments in all of cinema and is one of the reasons why I love his films so much. In this way, Miyazaki is extremely skilled at creating a lovely environment in his films, in this case the environment is more nature oriented. Joe Hisaishi's score too is great as always, he has scored almost all Miyazaki films.

Miyazaki is well-known for his signature style of feminism, environmentalism and aviation. He uses all of these in Totoro. After Mickey Mouse, Teddy Bear and Winnie the Pooh, you will always find Totoro as the most favorite children's character. The innocence of Totoro is delightful for kids but more surprising thing is that the adults found it more moving and more meaningful and as I said earlier, Nostalgic...

I don't know where to start! I recall a scene from the movie where Arrietty is climbing up the plants. She stops for a moment to catch a breath when suddenly a gust of wind energizes the whole atmosphere (See Snapshot). There is a moment of calmness when Arrietty gets up realizing that she is no longer in her "secret" haven; she's now in the forbidden world of human beings. Animated films don't usually have calm little moments like these. These are the points where the film is allowing audiences to get into the skin of the character and escape into the wonderful universe. Arrietty is not only about the story but also is about the experience. It has so many beautiful moments like the one mentioned above...

Yeah of course the film has stunning animation. Everything is madly detailed from huge city landscapes to a drop of rain. And to help tell the story, Cécile Corbel's spellbinding score brings goosebumps while experiencing the action. On Technical terms, Arrietty score top marks.

In conclusion, Arrietty is the glimpse of our own world but from a different perspective. It does so in a quite artistic way and every frame of it feels so fresh. And the ending, though confusing to some people, proves how unexpected life is. Highly Recommended.

The Intouchables has broken all the box office records in France and Europe recently and is attracting a lot of audience. Being a fan of French cinema, I decided to be a part of this experience. The Intouchables, based on a true story, tells the tale of a handicap millionaire named Philippe played really brilliantly by Francois Cluzet who appoints Driss (Played by Omar Sy), a broke ex-con, to be his caretaker. Because both of them have somewhat same kind of nature, they develop a deep friendship.

I have to say first that the performances were very impressive. Each and every actor was natural in their roles. For example: Driss is supposed to very funny which he is, very much. Even the opening scene was great! Millionaire is shown as a tried old man who's bored of his own luxuries and he appoints Driss just because he sees himself in him: a young exuberant yet a wasted man. Secondly, the relation between the both, their friendship, is the whole point of the film. It was good I guess, I just thought that there were some aspects of it that I had already seen in other films , the same cliches that appear again. But just like I said, the performances were great. So the acting made their friendship more energetic and realistic. Thirdly, it was quite hilarious. One scene where both the leads exchange their taste in music was one of the best. Although there wasn't anything new in it, but their love for each other matters the most in this film. Lastly, the plot is quite simple, no twist or turns. It's a simple but great tale of friendship, in which both the characters learn something from one another and so do we...

Though The Intouchables doesn't show us anything new, it's entertaining and a new addition in the French cinema that I would love to discover and rediscover. Highly Recommended.

In 1945, the horrible World War had ended. It was this age when people had seen too much reality and they didn't care for entertainment that lived in fantasies or easy-going films. It's A Wonderful Life unfortunately suffered because of the same reason and it went unnoticed under the audiences' noses. But in 60's this films magic was revived making it an instant holiday classic.

It's A Wonderful Life is the story on the life of George Bailey (James Stewart). He has a perfect life but just one problem: nothing ever turned out he wanted to. George dreamed of exploring the world, going places. But his father's bank and the Notorious Mr. Potter, the antagonist whose after the bank and is the richest man of Bedford Falls, never gave him a chance. When George learns of Potter's interest of taking over the whole town, George tries hard preventing that situation. He spends half his life helping out his dear ones, even during the war. At one point, a terrible calamity befalls George that breaks him completely. Suddenly, out of nowhere, an angel named Clarence comes down to Earth to save George from committing suicide and makes George see his mistake in the epic half-hour conclusion.

Every American has seen this film at least once. It's a timeless classic with a beautiful message, so beautiful that it can inspire you. Some people think that this film is brilliant only in the last half-hour, that's the time when the angel comes to the rescue and shows George how wonderful his life actually was and is. That's not true though. The entire film is joyous, happy and wonderful but we don't see it because we lack the vision to see it. And it's Clarence who gives us this vision and proves the point. The film teaches us that one should not care what conditions he/she is in as long as he/she has people who care for him. George and the audience (That's us) don't see the point of everything that's happening in his life as it is a normal life that we all live: simple, honest and a sometimes a lot of struggle. When I watched it the second time, I got it and enjoyed it even more. Since then I have tried hard to appreciate all the small things that have come along my path, whether it's good or bad, because I know that I have friends and my parents who will always laugh with me and help me. I am not sentimental or gay or anything, it's just that It's A Wonderful Life is right...

About the performances, it were great. The film has great humor, a little spice, a little romance, a little serious stuff, a little of everything that life's made of. Frank Capra has timed everything perfectly and even Clarence the angel doesn't look silly as angels frequently are in reel life.

I will conclude saying that It's A Wonderful Life is a wonderful film, the one with a seriously thought-provoking message. Highly Recommended Classic...

It's a really great thing: Watching and enjoying cinema from around the world. It's as though we take an imaginary tour of the globe. This time, I found my self in a cold region of Sweden where an international conductor, Daniel Daréus played by the well-known Michael Nyqvist, tries to train the church choir to perfection. Then on wards, everything changes...

This is a very beautiful film on music it's all about love, hope, courage, betrayal... Yes, the film is a little cliched in it's allegory but the acting raises the film to a high level. The music too is great: Not like in common films where the protagonist just sings and every one in the audience is like "Wow it's great!", when in reality it's actually not that good. The music truly was surprising and leads to a final mesmerizing conclusion. It clearly explains the meaning of it's title.

Now the only problem I think is that the ending may not work for everyone. I loved it but I did find elements that can turn off some people. Well, at least the film was powerful enough to deserve to be a contender in the Best Foreign Film Category which actually is one of the toughest nominations.

A nice and rich with emotions Swedish Drama.

An insane general starts a process to nuclear holocaust that a war room of politicians and generals frantically try to stop.

Stanley Kubrick is one of my all time favorite director. The reason I love him is because his films are based on Human behavior and are character-oriented. Dr. Strangelove is no exception to that. It's a black comedy that makes us laugh and think at the same time. Peter Sellers did surprise me as he played three characters in the film all at the same time. Kubrick captured the political crisis so wonderfully that you just can't help but laugh. He ridicules the system and makes the whole cold war sound a joke. But he doesn't forget to show us the real face of all the politicians and the crazy military figures therein. After this film, Kubrick said goodbye to comedy and left only the "black" part in his later films. And even today, Kubrick's joke is fresh because this political nonsense and hunger for power still exists... A great movie from a lost, visionary director. A must see black and white classic.

Just watched this film. I gotta say that this is easily one of this year's best. Although Joseph Gordon-Levitt's wonderful performance was ignored by the major awards functions, I still think it to be an injustice from their part. Joseph Gordon-Levitt was great in 500 days of Summer, even more so in Inception but he just raised the bar. As for Seth Rogen, who is also one of the producers and a good friend of the director, was perfect. He plays the part of Adam's (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) best friend in this film. At times I felt that Rogen's character was not captured correctly. He always talked about getting laid to Adam. Adam thought that he was using his cancer thing to get laid himself. But it was towards the end that I realized that he was just trying to make Adam happy no matter what. He himself was unhappy but he doesn't show that (That point is proven when Adam finds out that he has been reading a book on Cancer, probably suggested by Adam's therapist herself). As the synopsis tells, friends are the greatest of the healers. Adam had Seth Rogen as his best friend but there is also Katherine, his therapist and a very subtle character. Adam didn't like interacting with her sometimes but eventually she also becomes one of his best friends (Or more than that I guess towards the End) The actress who played Adam's mother also requires applause. She truly convinced me of a worrying mother. The screenplay was brilliant and the film's filled with nice one-liners (Profanity included). This film's not suggested for kids though.

On the conclusion, the film was not only about curing cancer, friends or family, it was about curing yourself too. 50/50 is extremely simple and very direct. Still, it's quite... I don't know... different? And that's one of the reasons why this film is great. And yes, the films title may suggest you that it's based on chance (Because the people who got this cancer had 50% chances of survival, hence the name) but the writer is trying to convey us a beautiful message that when you have friends and family, your chances of survival is high but when you try to ignore them, it can get low. I loved this subtle message very much...

This was one of Hitchcock's last British movies and certainly one of his best. The Lady Vanishes is both thrilling and comic at the same time, a rare genre which only directors like Kubrick and Hitchcock himself have so far used to make a perfect cinematic experience. With it's memorable punchlines, witty direction and a thrilling plot, The Lady Vanishes manages to remain one of the best black and white movies to date...

Imagine that you have the responsibility of a hundred lives. You are watching your only hope going away while you are standing in the rain and can do nothing but save as many lives you can...

You won't understand this unless you have seen the movie. Hotel Rwanda is a fragment of cinema that shows the ugly truth of this world: Life is not always fair. This movie is marvelous, not because it's based on true events it's because the cameras captured the recreated events very beautifully.

Don Cheadle was great and I was surprised that he didn't won the Oscar. The performances really are great. Especially in the scene when all the foreign tourists are leaving the hotel and Paul watches them, standing in the rain, as they go away safely from the riots leaving the Rwandans... the emotions run deep. You even see a lady holding a dog in the bus. Now that's creativity!

I would recommend this to everyone. It's a unique movie with a very different style of film-making. And surprisingly, it's entertaining too. Hats off to Hotel Rwanda.

I have seen a dozen alien movies including Alien vs. Predator. I even knew what the alien looks like so I wasn't having high expectations from this movie. But, It got me, boy! From beginning till the end, the movie was astounding. Unlike other movies which are made today (which show a lot of gore and are very action packed) Alien is the only alien movie that gives a creepy feeling of "We are not alone". Unlike today's movies, they spent the first few minutes only to show us the entire the art-direction of the ship and how it works. Surprisingly enough, all the important scenes take place in these areas. Ridley Scott very cleverly creates the tension, slowly and slowly and a bit fast and a bit more fast and then a bang in the end! I still wonder how the hell they must have created those creatures and that too with extremely higher detail. The story to has a hard solid structures with pretty shocking twists. This movie is not like those non-sense action horror movies where you just watch people dying. Alien is way ahead of even today's film-making. It's a true benchmark like 2001 A space Odyssey. It's a highly recommended masterpiece.
