Of course, this little, dry, poor acted short takes it's due as pioneers work in the field of early American comedy, but expect nothing more. In the league of plump comedy actors, Fatty Arbuckle is funnier than John Bunny (which also reminds me of John Candy, years ahead), though Arbuckle again stood no chance when paired to Buster Keaton. Good comedy is a skill bestowed upon few.

I found The Artist stylistically fine, but the story was overall sentimental and predictable. A fine crowd-pleaser, so I understand all the awards an fuss, but I hope something less pastiche and more thought-provoking can win the best picture award at the oscars.
