This film is not worth watching. It's "slow cinema" at it's most pretentious, often using wide shots to "make you think" about life but it's clear that the film doesn't really have a message to tell you.
The art style of the 3rd and 4th turn is lazy in comparison to the 1st and 2nd. Where long, single piece camera shots are replaced by images of coal. Deep.
The first turn would have worked better on it's own as a short, a missed opportunity.
Why was it so damn long? Had this been a 90 minute comedy I could see this being a good film but there was so much filler it was hard to even care for the characters.
The opening 20mins or so are brilliant, intense and engaging. But then it's just dull, dull, dull for the rest of the movie. It was very hard to motivate myself to finish this film.
Whip is an interesting character that Denzel Washington really excels as but the characters around him are very two dimensional and portrayed with wooden acting.
I can only imagine that when Goyer was fleshing out the plot for MOS he must have had the Star Trek reboot on the television in the background. Much of this film is essentially a rehash of Star Trek with the final battle from the Matrix Revolutions bolted on the end.
