As of today, only 14 users have completed this list! I'm surprised.
(I've got 8 to go, myself, though I did have it completed last year or early this year, briefly).
We all have different tastes, and we're always going to argue about what deserves to be on a list or not, but I think we can all agree that High School Musical 3 is a giant WTF!
Totally loved seeing this. All those everyday products that now look so old-fashioned. I feel like someone should remake this every ten years with popular products of the day.
Fascinating list; thanks for making it! If the top 250 movies in this list were the REAL Top 250, there would be over 20 movies I haven't seen (or, in some cases, heard of!) so it's pretty interesting to see what is really voted high, but just doesn't have enough votes to make the official list. Pity this can't change and update automatically - you'll have to keep making new ones every so often!
Finally completed this list! I was surprised to see that only 176 other users have Platinums on it; out of over 131 000 iCM users that's surprisingly few! Of course, now I feel extra awesome. :-)
In light of the new changes, does anyone have a current official Top 500 they are willing to share? Would love to compare it to the old one and see how much it got shaken up between 250 and 500.
But dombrewer, if you look at the histories of the films you mention, some of them are only recent additions to the Top 250 (before this mass exodus, of course), and others were constantly in and out every week. Come and See is an example of the former, and La Grande Illusion the latter.
This fascinating site (which I love!) charts the history of all the Top 250 movies: http://took.nl/250/titles/index/page:1/sort:date_created/direction:desc
Interestingly, the only "new" movie to the list in this big change is A Fistful of Dollars! Everything else has been on the list before, and they'll continue to rise and fall, and maybe eventually be replaced with some of the ones you mentioned. But it's a fluctuating list, so I'm not too upset. Not nearly as upset as I was when the AFI revised their Top 100 movies list!
That's a HUGE jump. That said, I'm glad to see some favourites like Bringing Up Baby, His Girl Friday, Ed Wood etc back on the list. And funnily enough, I still have the exact same number of unwatched movies as I did before; they're just different ones!
So....now that the Top 250 has been shaken up and stirred around (it will only show up here on Monday, of course), would anyone be willing to share the new Top 500? The latest one I have, from early this year, will REALLY be out of date now!
You should include Clueless as well, if you're doing modern-day spin-offs. I'm sure there are others, too. Bridget Jones' Diary? And maybe Lost in Austen.

WTF is "On the Waterfront" doing on this list? Did I miss some crucial sci-fi element while they were having unions and wage disputes on the docks??Toplist comment on IMDb's Top 250

Started off really slow and draggy, and got a bit cliched with the excessive montages, but by the end I was quite drawn in and got quite emotional.Toplist comment on The 20 Most Disturbing Sex-Themed Movies
