Nowhere near as good as the first Iron Man, but definitely better than 2... I feel like a lot of mood was built up in the first act that didn't really get a payoff, but there was some fun stuff along the way... I guess 6/10?

Wow. I've been looking forward to seeing this for years, with so much build-up it easily could have fallen short but it exceeded my expectations.

Honestly, I can't think of another movie quite like it - the film plays with so many genres and even though the ending had me shook it doesn't play like a horror movie, instead it, well, plays.. the film has so much fun, from the amazing costumes to the musical numbers to the earthy evocation of a modern pagan society and the delicious performance by Christopher Lee. I'm gushing incoherently because this is a delight.

I've been singing The Landlord's Daughter all morning!

I loved many elements of this film but overall it was messy, unfocused, spiritually empty, and the ending was mindlessly stupid and gross

Such a beautiful movie.

One of the main actors clearly eats a healthy, high-fibre diet.

When bad directing meets a choppy script and is translated by middling actors (most of them were good actually but the male lead, yeesh) you get this disappointing mess of a movie.

Which is a shame because I was 8000% on board with the premise.

I'm so mystified by the negative comments on this! A masterpiece, so moving and funny, and very thought-provoking... this one is gonna linger with me for years

This movie is very.....okay. I guess. It happened to me. It looked like a Wes Anderson film, and it had some really charming moments. But it never coalesced and you could feel it trying in every damn frame. Most of the 'emotional' moments felt unearned and empty. Wouldn't watch it again but don't regret having seen it. Wouldn't exactly recommend though. Obviously.

Don't believe the haters, this is a beautiful, challenging, (and flawed) movie. There were things I didn't like about this, but it showed me things that I've never really seen on the screen before. Which is saying something in any genre, but especially SciFi!

Not sure why exactly, but I found this deeply moving. Hopeful, poetic, meditative, quietly inspiring

I absolutely loved this film, a feel-good movie in the best possible sense of that term

Haven't enjoyed a 'superhero' movie that much in a while

Also, Ryan Reynolds must be a Jim Carrey fan!

This was a pleasant surprise! Both the performances were very good, particularly Mendelshon (Aussies, represent). And it was a good mix of character study, road trip movie, meditation on gambling and addiction, and comedy.

It suffers from comparison to its obvious inspiration though – Altman's 1974 gambling road movie, California Split (even the name has the same formula!)
All I can say is, if you liked this you're gonna freaking looooove California Split. Do yourself a favour...

(Also, this was my first Ryan Reynolds film – he's charming and sexy AF)

I expected to like this film, but I did not realise how much it would affect me. Shed a few tears as the credits rolled, and was absolutely involved in every word, facial expression, and nuance of character throughout. If you're one of those who find it boring, I dunno what to tell you. I think finding this film boring would be like declaring disinterest in the universe, the history of mankind, and your own life. But that's just me; I think that last sentence will give you sense of how great I thought this film was!
I'm compelled to 10/10

Ah, so great to see what a genius can do with 88 minutes - a wonderful, if bleak, anti-war film, told with a brutal but not hopeless humanism. Kirk Douglas is great as always, and the sense of moral outrage he conveys makes you wanna reach into the screen and start pummeling!
The final scene left me a little cold, and felt morally ambiguous - in the sense of confused, not the nice sophisticated sense, but overall it is great.
Would make a fine double feature with The Thin Red Line!

Visually the film is stunning, but it is let down by a clunky screenplay and some so-so performances. Still, worth a watch. 6/10

it's just as bad as you'd expect only weirder..... some kind of post-Iraq guilt induced uber-transference going on where the USA becomes Iraq and the Americans become aliens, except the aliens are really jihadis - and water is oil. At least, those were some of my sketchy thoughts about it's insanely weird political messages - and I'm justified in reading into it, as the film is spattered with open invitations to do so. There are some cool action sequences, but ultimately Independence Day told the same story much better (and that's saying something!) years ago, and it's not a good sign when you laugh at all the emotional scenes, and just cringe at the jokes. 3/10

Interesting in a kind of academic way, but far too damaged and incomplete to be truly enjoyable as a film

Underwhelming, a few funny scenes.... And some semi-thrilling ones...but not top-shelf Hitchcock for me. 5.5/10

A very solid 7/10¡ Not entirely satisfying, but at times riotously funny, and with a genuinely beautiful ending
