Here are the title cards in English (from Google Translate).

"This is the Sopramonte Orgosolo, Sardinia, once a refuge for fugitives and bandits."

"In this stony wasteland, today, few pastors, contend in the cold and hunger of the existence of their flocks."

Found on KG. It's part of A Hollis Frampton Odyssey. It is...very self-descriptive.

I don't see how you *couldn't* classify this under horror. Especially since it uses so many asian horror movie tropes (especially the girl slumped over with hair obscuring her face).

Very atmospheric.

The Youtube video (mod-edit: dead link below removed) is corrupted about half an hour in...unless there really is 5 minutes of black. I wouldn't put it past Brakhage.

This movie was greatly enhanced by the fireworks being shot off across the street.

I really think Norman McLaren might be the most versatile filmmaker of all time. I challenge you to find two his films that are anything alike.

Really did not enjoy it. It seems like such a stupid pun to make, but lifeless is the best word I can come up with to describe it.

chemosh6969: He's done, well, two movies like that. This one, and its sequel, "The Bells of St. Mary's." Since the character's job is basically to help out parishes in trouble, I think we can forgive the plot repetition. ;)

NSFW is putting it lightly. Not safe for anywhere. I'm at home alone and I felt guilty watching it, heh.

I'm not sure this film can legitimately be watched, though screenshots do exist: http://disneybooks.blogspot.com/2007/07/jenny-lerew-mentioned-last-week-on-her.html

Not sure how the three people who checked it managed to see it (or if they even did).

@Crinderman: Paying to have lists made "official" would severely compromise the integrity of the site and diminish the lists that are already on the site. I'm gonna vote no for this idea.

Regardless of how many checks the average icheckmovies user makes every month, the time when the number of checks should absolutely *not* be limited is when a user first comes to the site. What is the first thing a new user does? They check all the movies that they've seen. On my first day, I checked several hundred movies. If the site went to limited checks, it would be completely impenetrable for new users, who would have to either pay money for a service they haven't really tried, or wait months to check all the movies they had seen before reaching the site.

Best short? Hardly. But it might be the best simulation ride I've ever been on. My wife and I were grinning stupidly all the way through.

This movie has a high FFPM (face punches per minute) ratio. I approve!

This is part two, for those who are either confused or don't want to click on the IMDB link.

It's a very loose definition of horror, I'll give you that, but it does involve murder, revenge, and possible witchcraft. It's as much a horror movie as Dreyer's "Day of Wrath", another film that regards its "supernatural" events with ambiguity.

Also, it was the inspiration for the original "Last House on the Left", which is without question in the horror category.

Not legally, as far as I know. I rented it from Netflix.

I'm done! I'm done! This is the list that started my long journey into becoming film literate, and after finally tracking down "The Forgiven Sinner" I've reached my goal. Phew! What a rewarding journey.

I have no problems with the list's obscurity. I just wish it didn't feel like I was treading water; every time I check this list, I have fewer movies checked than the time before (I used to be at around 160, now I'm closer to 140). Will I eventually hit zero? Only time will tell.

My wife also loves this movie and has seen it more than a dozen times. Is it completely silly? Yeah. But it has some very inventive sequences (the dance competition, the barn raising, the wood cutting scene, etc.)

This would make a great companion piece to Ozu's "Tokyo Story" which is quite a bit more well known. Nice to see this movie receive a Criterion edition, as it certainly doesn't have the audience it deserves.

Actually, correct me if I'm wrong, but this and the Twilight Zone episode are one and the same. Apparently, Rod Serling bought the rights to use the film as an episode of The Twilight Zone.

See the Wikipedia page...it's interesting: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/An_Occurrence_at_Owl_Creek_Bridge_%28film%29
