Plot holes everywhere, so-so acting, useless set-ups that led to nothing, even worse stories and no real sense of danger or horror whatsover. Atrocious waste of time.
Does anybody here see a vague resemblance to a certain movie called "how to train your dragon"? I mean, same medieval period, same teenagers going against their parents stuff, same find your own path bs, same "fantastic animal which acts as a narrative medium", etc. I wouldn't go so far as to call it a rip-off but, by golly, they're VERY similar.
No comments here yet? Caligola must be one of my favourite films of all time, even though it was marred by production problems of all kinds and despite the infamous hardcore scenes. It has that kind of horrendous extravagance and over the top ideas that Shakespeare used in most of his plays and for which the Romans were famous. How can you not love it?
It really is amazing how someone can make such a boring ass movie about hentai, pornography and torture (with loads of good looking women too). Really, great job.
Yesterday I saw Victory by Torneur and, well, didn't find it much engaging. Chaney is given his usual evil character, which he plays with the usual grimace and extraordinary charme. Rest of the cast is great, but the story tends to drag a lot and it's not really apt for a 70 minute movie.
It's really great to find many of those silent movies on youtube, especially because they're not that easy to find and, well, also because one can watch them without sound and... they work just as well!
I actually find the story of the father that, like God, makes mistakes, fascinating and wished the movie would have just focused on that, instead of adding visual pretentiousness, not to mention that insignificant ending. And I mean insignificant as "it did not bring closure to the story". It is by all of means very well shot and directed, but I'm not sure I will ever watch it again.
Left me rather unimpressed, even though it imitates a certain 80s style rather well, the soundtrack is nothing to write home about and the plot almost makes it look like this is a sequel of some kind. Also, cast is a bit of a mixed bag.
Frankly, I watched this only cause I have the hots for Kat Dennings and I hoped to listen to some decent music. Well, I was satisfied enough but the movie sucked anyway.
As many people on the internet already gutted this hideous piece of filth, I won't dwell on it. Either production problems or too many rewrites, something went HORRIBLY wrong in the production and nothing even remotely good was salvaged from the first movie.
Soundtrack is awful, acting is awful (even Sean Connery, he probably knew what he was getting into), plot doesn't make ANY kind of logical sense whatsoever and the special effects are corny. Really, it's not even so bad it's good, it's just comically bad in every respect.
Frankly disappointing. How did Landis manage to spoil a comedy with such a perfect cast (I mean, look at the names! Half of the cast of Spaced and Black Books!) I really have no idea. It's not that it's bad per se, it has a few laughs and the plot keeps you going but I really expected something way way better.
Rather weird and quiet zombie movie, even though the creatures do not appear until the last twenty minutes... and they're the worst part of the film. Up until that point, it's a perfect atmospheric movie, with decent acting and great set pieces. Too bad somebody remembered to stick some horror in there, ending up spoiling everything.
Real close to being one of my fav movies of last year, but didn't make it because of its second half, rather too corny. Anyway De la Iglesia reedems himself from the rather nasty Oxford Murders with this crazy Fellini-meets-Tarantino circus romp with blood, sex and good acting.
A delicate piece about old age and how nobody wants you around when you've grown old and cranky. Mc Carey made this film after the death of his father and probably this is the one everybody should remember instead of The Awful Truth. It's not a perfect movie by all means, but it tackles a delicate subject with light humour and no intentions of dramatizing everything.
One of those wonderful cinema moments, where everything comes together perfectly: beautiful scenery (not one CG drop was used!), great acting (the girl is so cute and a very good actress indeed!) and a delicate plot. Really not to be missed, one of my favourite movies of all time. And I do not make that statement lightly.
