The last of the EON productions featuring Sean Connery, he's still not as old as Roger Moore was when he first started. Connery sticks to his usual business: kicking ass and throwing out one-liners. The movie wants to take itself seriously at times, but then it suddenly dives into late-sixties/early-seventies camp.
One part really irked me: Bond overdressed at the casino while vacationers mull around the table he's playing at. Seriously? He has much more class than this. And what happened to Plenty O'Toole? She turned out to just stick around long enough to be a punchline, and was quickly disposed of -- her deleted scenes should have made it in the film. She goes into Case's house because she is jealous of her!
There are stronger movies in the franchise for sure, but the
Mustang car chase
is truly worth the price of admission. I consider Never Say Never Again to be the last in this series, so jump straight to this if you're dying to see Connery as 007 again.
This is a badass and influential action movie for people who aren't necessarily into the whole anime scene. Lots of action and a decent subplot. Animation is superb.
Glad to be the first one to comment on this in English. Most of the movie was funny in a Borat way, but some was downright messed up (an entire family dying?). It's a good one-time watch... in the background if you're doing something.
@StigAnder I suppose we don't really have a right to say whether or not something should be on this list. It is a measure of what registered users at IMDb want, the voice of the Internet with an American POV. You don't need to have seen 500 movies to get to vote on this -- anyone is allowed. That said, I am looking for other lists to follow, and Ebert's seems to be a great one.
Doesn't do the whole crossover into Ellis' universe, but it picks the finer points up for the character and plot. Bale's acting is top notch, though. If you are squeamish or a feminist, you should probably just skip it.
Definitely an important movie, but I don't agree that it was simply random. Important for modernism and futurism I'd say. On Wikipedia, someone compares this to Ulysses (Joyce), which is apt.
