Felt like a bad made for cable TV movie in that it completely lacked subtlety. The actors did the best they could with a poor script. The score was similarly atrocious. I was really hoping I'd like this film as I love classic Disney films, especially Mary Poppins, and I am a fan of all the actors involved, but the whole thing was overly melodramatic and the characters were so two-dimensional. I was wondering why this film didn't get much attention during awards season, and now I know why.

I agree with ClassicLady. It was just ok. Not sure why it's in the Criterion Collection. Nothing particularly special about it.Movie comment on The Master
