It was filmed as though it was a video game....if I close my eyes I can almost hear my boyfriend playing his "last" round of Call of Duty. Would probably be more fun if this was a video game actually. As a film....meh, just something to watch to shut your brain off.

This movie really missed the meaning of the one line that it ultimately should have been about spoiler If they had focused on answering that instead of uhMmm letting Sam Raimi do whatever the hell 85% of that was, it would have been pretty good. Also, why introduce a new character and then focus on [insert list of endless unecessary and cringy scenes here] ??

...this is one of those movies you can't look away from, wish you'd never seen and makes you wonder if the world truly did end in 2012 and we're living in some alternate reality. I know there will be YouTube videos and podcasts analyzing how tongue in cheek the whole thing is and how it's meta this and deconstructed that and...nope, still absolutely awful from start to whatever the hell happened by the end.

To quote my good friend regarding this film: spoiler. Who would have ever guessed Pattinson and Dafoe could make such a successful onscreen pairing. Moving effortlessly from eerie to comedic to horrific, it makes for a riveting watch. There's layers to it that would be best analyzed and addressed elsewhere so... Suffice to say, surreal folktale horror is a subgenre I never knew I needed until now.

The storyline isn't particularly engrossing but it is certainly filmed brilliantly. The camerawork is flawless. Some pretty great acting too!

A messy adaptation, but not a bad one. Agreed with those saying that the actors should be younger. Pip as a child was wonderful, he played it well. This is just my opinion but I've always thought that the truly heartbreaking and tender relationship in the book was never between estella and pip but between him and Joe. I'd love to see an adaptation which treats their bond as importantly as the novel does.

Okay, I can appreciate the finer philosophical points this film makes regarding love, monogamy, happiness and the mess we humans can make of it all but in the end all this amounts to, really is spoiler. So, it's a bit difficult to truly enjoy this film when you're left feeling like the questions it raises don't get answers worthy of the subject...if that makes sense.

Tom Hardy makes for the most convincing Heathcliff I've seen thus far but he's SO good and brings SO much passion to the role that everything and everyone else pales in comparison - which makes the whole adaptation suffer. All in all it's a worthy version of the book, though IMO still too light handed an interpretation.

The runtime had me thinking twice but once I started it the time honestly flew by. It's engrossing, thrilling, terrifying and amazingly enough, comedic! You're going to think you know what you're watching but it will keep you guessing until the very end. Once the credits started rolling I felt thoroughly creeped out and immensely satisfied. It's kind of like you've been sitting out in the woods by the fire at night and someone's told you a very old and very eerie folktale - and, uh, they told it so well you kind of wish they hadn't at all. (Lastly....how did this one tale manage to cram like 9 horror movies into one film?? Definitely gonna seek out more from this director).

A pretty straightforward and unremarkable story, but with some exciting scenes and nicely shot landscapes. Out of Monroe's more "serious" roles I'd say this one ranks pretty highly (though The Misfits was better!). Not only is her acting decent (despite the weird over enunciation - which her acting coach insisted on) but her singing is really lovely in this one. I kept putting this off but honestly, it makes for a fairly good watch.

One of the most difficult and horrific things I have ever seen and also one of the most important. Its scope is massive, touching on many aspects of history, politics, humanity and morality. Through the story of a film of crosscontinental importance (a film that wasn't even completed until 70 years after it had been begun) this documentary weaves together an unflinchingly profound look into one of history's darkest chapters. Powerful and haunting.

I think movies like this, especially a war film, tend to confuse people upon viewing because we're used to a different formula. Kind of paradoxically (considering what happens) I'd call this film quiet and contained. Masterfully so. Nolan corners the audience between a harbour, a beach and the open water. We look down, up, across and we wait, we wait, we hope, we fear and we wait. And most importantly we experience. The soldiers are nameless and near voiceless. Nolan doesn't manipulate our emotions through dramatic character arcs or even a solidly linear narrative. You might think that because of it, it's hard to relate to the characters but the deft handling of audio and image to build and maintain not only tension but a sense of yearning for "home" should push you into feeling not for one solider but for all of them, for them and those that came to their aid. Is it the absolute best war movie ever made ? Probably not. Is it absolutely worth viewing? Without a doubt. Don't miss this one!

This movie is so ridiculous and so so cheesy on so many levels but you have to be really bitter not to enjoy the hell out if it because it's also a ridiculous amount of fun. spoiler

20 lists!! I feel so betrayed lol Going off the comments it's possible his future films improve but this one is such a bore. The comedy is forced and stiff. The only thing that made me chuckle was the suggestion made by one commenter here that this can compare to Chaplin or Keaton..... (it really doesn't).

Surprisingly really good! The atmosphere steadily builds to a chilling creep factor, the chemistry between karloff and lugosi is perfect and the directing is pretty inspired at times - many of the shots and cuts felt modern and clever. It watches like a short story reads (if that makes sense lol). Worth the watch IMO.

It really does play out like a nightmare and a religious fever dream. It's carefully and purposefully steeped in elements of old folktales: the houses, spoiler, the animals, the lullaby type songs and the near magical atmosphere in some scenes, + spoiler. As such, the characters are archetypal; everyone around John is shrill voiced, naive, fanatical and blind and are often grossly exaggerated. Mitchum is to thank in large part for the films success, he is charm and evil personified - anyone less capable at perfecting his role would have ruined the film tbh. So needless to say...loved it. Makes me feel awful for Laughton though, who received a pretty frigid response to this, meanwhile it's a masterpiece of film making!!

Oh my gosh....oh MY gosh. Will you GET UP?

I don't know about it being as good or better than Citizen Kane but what does it matter, it's a great film. Welles is an absolute expert at storytelling, he manages to tap into something timeless in his films and it shows here.

(Hats off to Tim Holt too! I loved his performance)

The film rests on Emma Thompsons performance as Eleanor and Alan Rickman''s performance as Brandon. They keep the film grounded and away from becoming a melodrama considering everything that goes on. They're so good I hardly noticed the time go by. Really enjoyed it :)

I didn't think I'd end up loving this as much as I did. The script is sooo good and everyone plays off each other so well. A lot of memorable lines and scenes. Loved it.

I wouldn't know how to adequately express just how brilliant this film is. Andy Griffith was amazing. You'll never forget this one.

Really liked this one. Everything important and that comes up later is set up in the first half hour. I love a clean thriller/horror like that. It's gripping all the way through, which is impressive when you're not relying on jumps to get a reaction out of the viewer. Minimalistic and wonderful. Watch it !

Shane the man ends up feeling as one dimensional as Shane the film....despite efforts to the contrary. The running theme of "that damn annoying kid" in the comments is hilarious lol

Chaplin is effortless as always but I think the real star is Marie Dressler. She was hilarious and the best scenes were the ones she was heading. They make a surprisingly great duo!

I'm not one for musicals but this one surpassed any ideas I had about what it would be. Totally engrossing on all fronts. Liza was..."divine!" And the menacing growth of the Nazi party amid the dizzying and frenzied scenes at the club and in the life of our main cast was powerful and effective. Great film.
