Watched it on a Cathay Pacific flight (Jan. '17) and found it very enjoyable with a nice twist that subverted more stereotypical takes on the 'Freaky Friday' concept. I will definitely see it in theatres once it hits the States in April! So, definitely watch if you can!
While Woody Allen is my favorite living director, this movie is one better left unseen. It really isn't any good and it's a shame because I also am a fan of Joaquin Phoenix.
Advice: wait til next year for your Woody Allen fix lest you be sorely disappointed with this one.
i went into this film with only the slightest clue as to its premise. anyway, it really is something else and (maybe?) best served with little to no pre-knowledge....or maybe not, there is a pretty deliberate political/social subtext that could best be served with an awareness of the director's intentions. either way, good flick...definitely not for the faint of heart or those looking for a pick me up movie. (but you already know that otherwise you wouldn't be looking into a hungarian film now, would you?)
To offer a brief comment, 'Boyhood' is a film that will hit close to home for most viewers from one if not several of the perspectives offered by the various characters within the story.
Meanwhile, Linklater's choice to maintain his principals over the course of twelve years creates something unlike anything you've ever seen and helps to create a narrative both realistic and deeply moving.
I know, I know, I know...marketing. But, Oscar Isaac should have had the poster billing to himself because the movie rests solely on his shoulders for its entire duration.
All other praises aside (and there are plenty), Jonze's 'Her' is a masterfully innovative story that covers themes of human existence far transcendent of any time or place.
Phoenix is remarkable, as is to be expected, and the world presented is one that rings perhaps a tad eerily too true for us technologically reliant folk.
great premise, would have possibly preferred a better story to be recollected, but this is sarah's story and it is her film, so i guess i can't complain on that front.

There is a reason Ebert ranked this as the 4th best film released last year: the acting from both Gyllenhaal and Pena is phenomenal. And when the two leads of film hit it off as well as these two do (within developed characters to be sure), you've got the makings of a very good picture. And this is certainly one.
in the closing 45 minutes or so, the film brazenly abandoned all of the cutesy sentiment bestirred from the opening childhood scenes instead opting for a rather twisted conclusion. not sure i liked how it went.
---side note, i was surprised that of all the 'la vie en rose' covers the movie utilizes, they most often went back to louis armstrong's english version, i guess there is just something about that voice!
I was pleasantly surprised by this film. As a guy I'm a bit ashamed to admit I was almost as smitten with Morris as Catherine was. Clift played his role perfectly and that's what much of the story was reliant on.
I disagree with a previous poster who suggested de Havilland ill-fit for the part. In the pantheon of leading ladies of the forties, she was (and I don't mean to sound mean) arguably as homely as any. But perhaps that just speaks to the level of all actresses at the time. Anyway, if you thought she was miscast, imagine Jessica Chastain in the role, which she will be assuming on Broadway quite soon.
