Finally watched this with the wife a few days ago. After seeing it I can only imagine that Anne Hathaway's Oscar for this had to be more of a lifetime achievement award. I understand that she won for supporting actress but her time was so limited and her performance very one sided. It of the roles she has done I think there are a couple others I would have preferred her winning for instead of this one.
I do agree with others though that Hugh Jackman was fantastic. I also did not mind Russel Crowe's performance either. There were a few times when his voice sounded awkward but I think he did very well in the role overall.
Time travel paradoxes aside, I really enjoyed this film. The movie was a bit on the slow side and took a while to develop. I thought most of the cast did very well and JGL is quickly becoming one of my favorite actors. Have been waiting a long time for another truly great sci-fi film and while this doesn't quite fill that gap, it does make for a very nice place holder in the mean time.
Watched this a few nights ago on Starz. Was not nearly as bad as some of the reviews made it out to be. Certainly not the one of the worst movies ever as some have found it.
I was seriously wondering how they were going to tie the board game at all into the movie. When they got to that scene I couldn't help but laugh. Felt very much forced but still fun in a cheesy sort of way.
Glad I did not spend money to see this on the screen or on blu ray. But it wasn't terrible for a slow night when nothing else was on TV.
Was not quite sure what to think of this film going in based on the trailers alone. I actually wound up enjoying the movie quite a bit.
Beneath the overlaying story of the butter competition there is actually a touching story about finding family and finding the underlying goodness in the people you would least expect.
I agree with the other comment about Rob Corddry. This is the best performance I have seen of him in a film. He was still quirky and funny but was able to show that he is capable of emotion and did very well in the role.
Not good, not terrible. Pretty standard fair for movies that deal with this topic. Plot is very predictable even though they throw things at you to make you think it might come out differently.
First movie I have seen with either Andrew Garfield or Carey Mulligan. Was very impressed by Carey...not so much by Andrew. Although I have not read the book so I do not have a character analysis to base his performance on.
Liked the movie well enough overall. Beautiful cinematography during many scenes.
Finally got around to seeing the film and have some mixed feelings. Having known a little about Micky Ward I though for sure the Gatti fights would be there. Still a decent movie though.
Christian Bale was phenomenal and glad to see that he received the recognition that he deserved for it. I thought Amy Adams was the next best part of the show. I was nice to see a little range from her after seemingly being typecast into "sweet" roles. One of my fav actresses.
I really like most of Boyle's movies as well as most of Dicaprio's roles from Catch Me If You Can and on.... however having read the book before seeing this movie, this came off as a huge disappointment. Even looking at it as a stand alone movie I did not see many redeeming factors.
While still just a fairly generic rom-com, the movies was much better than I had initially anticipated. Drew Barrymore is still as adorable as ever and Justin Long is his usually quirky/charming self. Not alot of variety from what the two normally do; however their personalities match very very and it comes across as such during the movie.
