The 10 that this movie gets from me cannot compare to all the other tens other movies have received from me. Amazing story, amazing cast, amazing director.
This movie is not for everyone but this is a story you should see and not ignore. It's a story about a girl turned woman who has been beaten down all her life. In those times (beginning of 20th century) women had no say and were treated worse than dogs because men had been considered the better sex for as long as civilization has existed, so I imagine some might feel 'attacked' by this movie. This is a brave movie for its time and it's still current today in 2016 and will remain in all upcoming days. This is a reality in which many people had to live. Period. And if you say this movie is hating on men then you're completely missing the point. Go educate yourself.
A sweet story. It really made me fall in love with Florence (Meryl Streep), St Clair (Hugh Grant) and Cosme (Simon Helberg) as characters. I enjoyed the plot and the message behind it. Florence's words stayed especially in my mind: "The can say I can't sing but they can't say I didn't". This is truly a life lesson. The movie shows the incredible support Florence had and it just shows what an integral part of community and society she was. Truly inspiring and not so bad as some may say. sure, it's not everybody's cup of tea but this is definitely mine.
the dance sequences might have been fun (not for me - I was just gaping with my mouth open) but the main issue is that there's no real story here. well, i didn't expect any good one but at least some.
I can't really understand what this movie was supposed to be because the first part was dark and gloomy and the second part was rushed. There are many open questions left and while the cast is amazing and clearly has chemistry, as you could see on various talk shows when the movie was promoted, the movie itself seemed chopped up in many pieces.
