Can't Balaguero make at least one good movie?
The only good film he made was [REC] and I honestly think that film was great because of Paco Plaza.
I think Balaguero intended Venus to be impactful and emotional, but it isn't, my suspension of disbelief has a limit and this movie surpassed it by a lot.
The movie had potential to be good, but I just doesn't get why they made it like this.
It reminded my of Martyrs (2008) and Hellraiser (1987) but it completely failed at achieving the same impact and personality of those movies.
If you want to watch a Spanish horror movie with an eclipse in it, please watch Verónica (2017), because this is not worth your time.
Now, I've watched it for the second time and my opinion and feelings have changed in some aspects. From the first time I already enjoyed it, I admired the acting and cinematography, but the end wasn't very impactful in comparison to the long exposition and the built that preceded it.
This second time I enjoyed it more, Joan Fontaine's acting couldn't be better and she was the reason I watched it again. I enjoyed the building of the plot more than before and also the end felt more satisfying. Although
I would leave the burning scene out.
The movie already feels somewhat long and I didn't care that much for
Mrs. Danvers. I think both twists (knowing that Max killed Rebecca and then discovering that she wanted that to happen) previous to the burning scene were enough for the climax of the film.
Still, after these two times I don't love it, but I respect it more, definitely a well done film.
The only problem I had was that I already knew something that was going to happen, because I already watched Verónica. So I recommend watching this one first.
Both Verónica and this one are good, but Verónica is just incredible well done. I also recommend [REC] (2007) and [REC]3 (2012) from Paco Plaza.
It was fun.
Not as good as Godzilla vs Kong (2021), but still entertaining, and definitely better than Godzilla King of the Monsters (2019).
This movie doesn't explore important themes (like the best Godzilla movies do), but I don't think it tries to be serious and it's good for what it is, I recommend watching it.
Finally!
This movie is great, the fights scenes are clear and easy to follow. The human characters are charismatic and aren't shown too much (the complete opposite of Godzilla King of the Monsters), the kid (Jia) is a great and both Godzilla and Kong are developed further as characters.
The CGI effects are the best of all the Legendary movies and the Kaijus are the best they have looked in all the Monsterverse, I recently watched all the movies again and Godzilla King of the Monsters (2019) has already aged pretty bad, most the monsters designs are poor (King Ghidorah, Larva Mothra, Rodan and all the other generic monsters shown briefly).
I've watched all the 36 Godzilla movies multiple times and this one is pretty good, King Kong vs Godzilla (1962) was too silly in my opinion, it was entertaining, but not great.
People love to hate movies, but there's no reason to hate this one. This movie does what it's trying to do, definitely the best Hollywood Godzilla movie so far.
It's slow for a Slasher, but it develops the characters quite well.
Overall it is watchable, but it lacks in the most important aspect of any Slasher and that is to have a distinct and memorable killer.
At the end I felt like I've wasted my time watching this, there was potential, but I could have been way better.
This movie is great, I've to say I'm a fan of Paco Plaza [REC] and [REC]3 are also great, but this one was a huge surprise.
After a couple of years I've watched it again and I genuinely think it is one of the best horror films I've watched in the past 10 or 15 years.
The atmosphere is on point, the jumpscares are not overused (like in most modern Hollywood horror movies), and the main character is likable and believable.
This movie has and will stay in my mind for many years.
In my opinion way better than any James Wan movie or movies in the Conjuring universe.
Now that I've watched the 2005 movie I like this one even more (Even when I already enjoyed it at first).
The best part of it is of course Vincent Prince, and not only his acting, but also the character. You really feel sorry for him and that is the greatest achievement of this film.
One of my favorite Vincent Prince movies and definitely worth watching.
All the characters are poor and empty, I didn’t care AT ALL for any of them, not even the family. In the original they are extremely charismatic and you just can't stop looking at the screen. Here I was just begging for the movie to end.
I don't even want to talk about how stupid the situations and the characters are, just don't watch it.
Marlene Dietrich is just great, for me her performance is what makes this movie good.
I really disliked Harvey and his acting was very poor in my opinion, during all the film he always had the same expression on his face.
A great movie, very interesting at the time. Definitely the best movie by James Wan, who would say he was to become one of the worst filmakers of the genre.
All the sequels are absolute trash, but this movie is worth watching.
If this is the case the Warren didn't want to talk about, the other cases must have been pretty boring.
Now seriously, it has been many years since I watched it, and now, even though it has some problems, The Conjuring is fine overall and is way better than all the shitty movies that came after it (The Conjuring 2, The Nun, La Llorona) and also way better than Insidious 1 & 2.
It was stupid at times, the make up of the spirits could be better and only half of the jump-scares good built (but at least I'm glad there weren't that many of them). The worst thing about the film was the score, it kick me of the immersion a lot, for example when the ball appears in the basement.
Also, I was expecting at least the police and Drew to die :(
Still, I've watched many better films, and even though I liked it, the price this movie gets is too exaggerated.
Also, with only two good movies (Saw and The Conjuring), for me James Wan is a bad director.

This movie was incredible fun and very suspenseful at times.I'd have loved to watch it in the theater back in 1959.
As always Vincent Price makes the movie even more enjoyable.

Actually, it wasn't that bad.It was entertaining and funny, and a couple of the death scenes were well done.
Don't expect to find a great movie, but if definitely could be an entertaining movie for a one time watch.
Also, it's the only film starring Paris Hilton and Tommy Wiseau!
I still, prefer the Vincent Price movie way more :)
