Boy these corporations want to be your friend so much.
The faux irreverence. Ugh. See, they don't make Bugs Bunny cartoons anymore for a reason. This is like Tiny Toons just a sad echo of some dead spirit. This is a film for people without imagination who never learned how to read and therefore cannot conceive of any undirected, unmediated self.
-Jeez ! Sayles this looks expensive
- so many familiar faces
-the whole thing looks, feels and smells like a worn in baseball glove
-"Snappy" dialogue
-The most cinematic Sayles I've seen
-Everything just flows
-they sure used the hell out of historic Busch Stadium which is now a bunch of apartment buildings
-It evokes a nostalgic aura, a golden past
-it is the opposite of what Sayles usually does
-this one isn't personal, actual and emotional its fantastic, nostalgic and archetypical
-Even the scandal appears golden, humorous
-It is for the true baseball fan
-Baseball is so much more civilized than football, so much more American
-Gentle, muted, jaunty and crafted with real care
-Sayles is one of the truly great American directors. He makes a film from a place of love for humanity
-He isn't some soulless businessman like Fincher , Cameron, Spielberg or Nolan
-He isn't some effete dilettante like Sofia Coppola, Wes Anderson or Noah Baumbach
-He isn't some misanthropic, violent, guilty schoolboy like Scorsese
-He is just a nice guy who makes honest worthwhile films
-Still all looks like cgi crap
-feel the desperation of keeping the kids glued to the screen
-could have picked good music not only are the pop songs they use atrocious but the pedestrian symphonic score seems added to make everyone remember this is a real film, a real expensive film so don't forget how much of a quality experience you are having right now.
-yes it has a story but is it really a story
-try hard, do the right thing, stick with it
-just as one can become entranced by the flickering of sunlight through the trees this film continually moves but goes nowhere, means nothing.
-you want those kids immersed in this crap, they want to be immersed and that is about all there is to it because this is what the people pay for.
-Money is extracting by stopping millions of kids(or actually most people at this point) from moving or thinking for an hour and a half and they feel good about themselves for making that purchase
-Ugly looking except for the trains
-ugly annoying people occupying all roles
-pretty much everyone but the female leads husband
-solving the existential moment with sex
and everyone remains feeling guilty the whole time
-woo fucking hoo
=Stodgy hollywood type message picture that really has no message.
-Laughable swelling orchestral score
-pointless poorly done violence and sex woo hoo
-main character clearly on some sort of opiate
God this film felt like it was six hours long and in the end nothing means anything. Actually that sounds like the perfect existential type film but given the pedestrian writing and the meaningless cold artificial sets you are left with nothing interesting for your mind to ponder on as it tediously grinds out its plot. Slow Slow Slow and I loved Satantango.
overrated and under-realized. I kept thinking why does the black and white photography look so bad. I think it has something to do with the processing. It could have been cool if they could have had the dynamic range of a Tarr or a welles film. But It is certainly more interesting than anything else coming from america lately.
This is a hilarious spoof on documentary films. It is ridiculously over the top in its depictions of poverty. It's more like a comedy than anything else.
