This movie has the distinction of being the only movie to ever make tears run down my face, and I found myself making choking animal noises. Wasn't prepared for that... A masterpiece.
This movie has some genuinely moving scenes, and is committed to not pulling any emotional punches
the death of the father in particular comes to mind.
However, for every scene of genuine sentiment, there's another that extends way too far into the realm of the saccharine. I'm not nearly enough of a sap to meet this movie at the level of emotion it commits to, and some moments feel horribly disingenuous given the lukewarm Linklater philosophizing that some characters slip into. The movie is really well animated, and there are some amazing sequences (the snow day). I found the anthro forms of the children to be a little jarringly drawn; it looks a little too cartoonish and reminds me of deviantart drawings. All in all I would've liked this movie a lot more if it didn't feel so scripty and was a lot less syrupy sweet. 3/4 stars
This is one of the most interesting and inspiring documentaries I've ever seen. There's not all that much investigative here, largely the movie is a behind-the-scenes of the making of Tim's painting but that was enough to leave me very well entertained. Sometimes it's nice to just share in someone completing a truly great work.
A silly movie that doesn't build up to anything and accomplishes little. The villain is too ill-defined both physically and figuratively. P.S. Will horror movie protagonists ever learn that it's ok not to answer the door?
Cool fight scenes do little to disguise the fact that this film has very little to offer. Bruce Lee should have followed his own advice in the film; it needs emotional content.
I originally wrote this movie off. But after seeing it recently, I think it might be better than the original. The movie is a lot less goofy and cares about establishing good themes. The only thing I disagree with is the inclusion of the love interest. She is flat, boring, and doesn't fit in well with the story. His mom is also flat for that matter (though I'm only talking about her character in this instance).
Though the plot is predictable, it is very rare to find a movie with such an aptitude for brilliant dialogue and very humanistic characters. Robin Williams delivers one of his best performances as the psychologist. 9/10
This movie is silly, true. And yes, it does have inventive scenes. However, the failing points of this movie are the shallowness of its conflicts, the lack of development for its characters, and how forgettable the songs were. The only song I found myself humming after watching the movie was "Bless Yore Beautiful Hide," and this was only because its tune was the main background music for the entire movie. 5.5/10
No, no. It's really bad. The characters are boring, the movie's theology (and therefore plotline) is unintelligible, and the climax of the movie is literally a deus ex machina. How silly.
I honestly can't see how anyone could find this movie boring. I was laughing throughout the movie and the fact that almost all of the train scenes were actually happening only added to my appreciation of the action sequences. The plotline was simple but very well executed. I can see why this is considered the number one movie of the silent era.
It's a 1940s drama about a man and woman who attempt insurance fraud (a crime). "Double Indemnity" is an insurance term that provides for someone to collect double their claim in special circumstances.
Great visual style as always. However, there were too many plot points brought up that were never resolved or even addressed later. (Sophie's mother, the actual war etc.) What we end up with is a movie that's pretty to look at, but not very engaging as a cohesive story. 7.5/10

Highly predictable and rather shallow, though the landscape shots were beautiful and the movie has a few good moments. 6/10Movie comment on Sullivan's Travels

I love Duck Soup, but I don't remember it being much of a musical.
