After 250+ comments on this list, with half of them explaining how the top 250 is a list of movies picked by the all the people and not only by critics, it's still hard for some people to grasp the concept of popular votes...
On a more positive side, finally got gold for this list, whoohoo!
Darn guys, I really can't stand all of them complains about this list. If you don't like it, so be it. I don't like a list like nobody's blues like my own or something like that, but who the fuck cares?! Guess I'm complaining now too..
3 Nolan movies in the top 30?
Two Star Wars movies in the top 15?
Two LOTR's in the top 20?
Fight Club 14?
The Matrix...the goddamn Matrix at 23?
Somehow Toy Story 3 has surpassed every animated film that ever came before it?
pixiemix... I guess you and everyone else who that opinion will never get it, will you? IMDb is a conduit for the voice of the people, a representative democracy for the pool of its users. There is nothing wrong with IMDb in this regard; actually, it's an extremely useful database. On the other hand, you could go ahead and blame the people who voted some of this shit so high, but is it really worth it? And more to the point: are you really that surprised? I might not think that Inception is the 7th greatest movie of all-time either, but I'm not too shocked at its placement when I take everything into consideration.
That's not too bad of a distribution. Recent films are overrepresented, granted, but I'd also like to think the art of film has improved (in general) over the years.
@pixiemix
What's even more shocking is that 68/250 movies were released in the last 10 years. That's almost 1/4th of the entire list dedicated to a single decade out of a 10-decade movie history (feature length).
But then again, this is a popularity list, and a good one at that. Of each genre/decade only the most popular titles will make it into the list. To keep it accessible, they implemented the minimum number of votes required to enter the list.
250th! I really liked Kick-Ass, maybe not in the top 250 of all time, but just better written and more ambitious than Scott Pilgrim and other similar recent films. (although maybe it s the lack of a gurning Michael Cera)
Kick-Ass was mediocre. It lacks focus, like it can't decide what it wants to be. Halfway through the movie, it completely changes tone, and from there on the main character takes a backseat to far more interesting side characters.
It also gets really cruel and mean spirited at points, which would be fine if the movie wasn't also trying to be a comedy. Sort of leaves a bad taste in your mouth when you're laughing at the old ultra-violence one minute, and then there's an uncomfortably realistic torture scene.

@moleharris: Now we gotta know what those two were!pixiemix
It's shocking that Inception is supposedly the 7th best film of all time. Imdb is kinda ridiculous.Mixe

Only 39 movies on this list I haven't seen yet, and of the ones I've seen, only 2 I didn't like. I hated one of them.biggianthead

The fight choreography is pretty good, though!

I'm kind of sad Kick-Ass is gone - I thought it was such a cool, offbeat action comedy with a comic book feel. Oh well!TheMajor
