@naikou: ofcourse now I have to tell you that you just did not get the true essence of those movies and that you should go back to watching Michael Bay movies ;-)
I personally really disliked The Seventh Seal, la Strada and Ed Wood. I am sure they are great in many ways, but just not to me. So let the insults with regards to my underdeveloped movie taste and intelligence begin :-)
Everybody's got a handful of movies from this list which they really don't like (mine are American History X, Princess Mononoke, Into the Wild, and Crash). And that's fine, different tastes for different folks.
Good Will Hunting is fantastic (gave it a 8/10), Into The Wild is fantastic and it's on my top 30 of all time! Braveheart is very good (gave it a 7/10) and The Lion King is almost flawless! Gave it a 9/10...
Also it's a bit ridiculous to say that something has not 'stood the test of time' when that time has not actually passed. Sure, you could apply this in general terms to something like 'Pirates' because we can take it for what it is -- popcorn entertainment, pure and simple. But The Matrix is widely considered a groundbreaking action film that opened the floodgates for countless copycats (Inception being a recent example).
Movies like Pirates make it here because the IMDB formula factors in popularity into its rankings. And pretty much everybody likes Pirates enough to give it a good to great score, though few people think it is a masterpiece.
I agree in general terms, but the matrix is 12 years old this year, and Pirates is 8...they're not like some of the recent rubbish that turns up and falls off after a couple of weeks. I know ITO of "standing the test of time" 12 years isn't much compared to 60 or 70, but it's still a goodish length of time. I think Matrix and Pirates are here to stay!

I love The Return of the Jedi and The Manchurian Candidate, and I can't understand how anyone could hate them. The movies I hate in the top 250 off the top of my head: Kick-ass, Mary & Max, Gladiator.
