I wasn't hugely impressed with it. Not read the book so couldn't base my opinion against that but have watched 'Battle Royale' which has a very similar concept/plot. I thought BR much, much more entertaining and gripping and I found the concept alot stronger and more interesting too.
Now by no means was this a bad film, I enjoyed it, it was just lacking based on the hype surrounding it.
I also felt a few things were very loose aswell. Things kept happening that were never elaborated on. I don't know if you'd have to have read the book for them to make sense but if that is the case, that's a terrible thing to have done as many won't have read the book.
Good movie, I enjoyed it and I do like the concept, it's not a movie I need to see again though. I would be very interested to watch it's sequel though as it was a good strong start to a trilogy.

Started off pretty exciting. Once the hunger games were on though, nothing special happened. "The Condemned" with kids. spoiler

Having read the trilogy, can't say I'm completely disappointed and that it wasn't true to the books. But, it feels like there's something missing. You can't really grasp the connection between Peeta and Katniss, as it is described in the book. Also, for non readers, somethings may be left unexplained or "underexplained",for instance, the reason behind the start of the hunger games. As showed in the film, it's not clear that the 13th district, so vital to the story, started the uprising which led to their destruction and the start of the Hunger Games. I also think that too much time was dedicated to the stay in the Capitol, and think it would have been better to extend the arena scenes instead. Maybe that would have given enough time to add more depth to the relations between the tributes, like the alliance between Rue and Katniss. All in all, Iooking forward to the sequels. Hope they get even better.

I had been going around, glibly saying I didn't need to see The Hunger Games because I'd seen it already, when it was called Battle Royale. But though the premise is somewhat similar, the intent of both book and film is so different that it was an unfair comment on my part. The Hunger Games isn't about kill gags, for one thing, and instead of following a group of kids and letting us wonder who will make it out alive, we're squarely with Katniss Everdeen (terrible name) practically all the way through. Even when we move away from what she can see, it's only ever to see people talking about her. If Battle Royale was definitely about extreme Reality TV converging with the cruelties of growing up, THG merely uses that trope to support the Bush-era metaphor of sending one's kids overseas to fight in wars. I appreciated it and am looking forward to the next one, but it didn't exactly inflame my imagination. The broad strokes with which the world was painted were perhaps to blame.

Ok movie but don't get what all the fuzz was about? Movie is overlong, dramatically very uneven and seriously lacking in suspense but good supporting cast and some nice scenes and Jennifer Lawrence make this watchable.

Pretty good though the slower paced scenes were kinda weak, I didn't feel too much for the characters beyond wanting them to win the games. Definitely a must watch for everyone though.

This movie lacked only two things; a director, and a screen writer who had read the book.

I thought some scenes were particularly executed beautifully via the camerawork and the usage of silence helped enhance the emotions we feel towards the characters. Looking forward to the next installment!

I feel like this is stolen material. I really do. Obviously there is Battle Royale, but it feels worse than that. There were other American movies which stole from Battle Royale. I'm sure you can even point at things like, "The Most Dangerous Game" going further back. However, what feels like heresy here, is that, while I kind of expect Hollywood to retread material, I hold the publishing world to higher standards, so shame on them for publishing uninspired story.

I loved this movie, I donĀ“t care about books but I do care about movies and with good actors and great scenes, this movie is a good alternative to the book
